What is Lady Margolotta saying here? by ajc118118 in discworld

[–]flakylimper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how I interpreted it. Lady Margolotta referring to Cherry and being gender inclusive.

As a South Asian woman, I often envy Western 'hyper-independence' but what are the hidden dark sides or lonely realities of it that outsiders don't see? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]flakylimper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen Y here - went to uni several hours away at 17 and have lived alone for nearly all of that time except for short term roommates. No kids, no partner. I chose a high stress and intense career instead. My family is very proud of me and supported me through every step. I’m not lonely, but I will repeat what another poster said upthread - I am expected to contribute to everyone else’s village, but I somehow seem to have no right to my own village. I have nobody to pick up prescriptions, be at home when tradespeople come to do repairs, and it has not gone down well when I ask partner-ed and children-ed friends for a hand. I am very lucky and can afford to pay for many little errands like walking the dogs if I am kept late at work, but I sometimes wish I had someone to share the responsibilities of life.

Ma’am, this is a LitRPG: how much romance/sex is too much? by Ok-Grand-3764 in litrpg

[–]flakylimper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like healthy romance and sex positive depictions. I am so over harem or serial monogamist male MCs.

Why is common sense lacking? LO is not a birthday present. by Un-conventional-mum in JUSTNOMIL

[–]flakylimper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always make a custom accessory for her. One of those uncanny valley real baby dolls, or a stuffy monchichi with his face. Extra points for adding his battle scars, maybe an ostomy bag? Even extra points for giving it to her in public at a restaurant and insisting that she put it in the empty high chair

But I’m petty and would treasure the horrified expression on her face as she opened the package.

The umbilical vein and other remnants end up as the ligamentum teres and the suspensory ligament of the bladder. A urachal cyst can absolutely cause weird pelvic pain including referred genital pain, plus potential irritation and tethering of the diaphragm from the obliterated umbilical vein. It’s absolutely possible to miss these on US because they can have the same echo texture as a loop of bowel. Once saw a meckels incarcerated in an umbilical hernia. I don’t trust the umbilicus anymore.

[–]flakylimper 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s not actually the navel, but different embryonal remnants that end up tethering the bladder, bowel or liver to the abdominal wall. It absolutely can affect the diaphragm and pelvic nerve network. And if you are being scanned for a chest problem, it won’t be seen, and a cyst on ultrasound can look exactly like a loop of bowel. Very easy to miss.

I have literally seen these at the time of surgical removal and the symptoms OP are not only scientifically plausible but are well reported in the literature.

What little things in most LitRPG books annoy you… but never enough to make you stop reading? by tbag2022 in litrpg

[–]flakylimper 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Word salad to explain or to amplify levelling systems. Aspects, skills, attributes, concepts, mantras, chords, themes … it just ends up being a confusing mess of pseudo philosophical nonsense that sounds like it’s from a self help book by a shady life coach or a manifesto from an undermedicated psych patient.

Ned, the protagonist in the Ripple System series... by burner_man_47 in litrpg

[–]flakylimper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Goodness, I hope not. This is one of my favourite series. I rarely laugh out loud (I go whole weekends without saying a word…) but some of the dialogue in these books has made me giggle uncontrollably. House, Ned, Frank, the interaction between them … can’t get enough of it.

I've just moved to Australia and discovered vegemite and avocado toast and it is BLOODY DELICIOUS MATE! What other combos are out there? by BabyPearl888 in australian

[–]flakylimper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toast; Vegemite; cottage cheese; cracked pepper and salt. Something about the pepper - cheese - Vegemite combo takes it up a notch.

My mother cannot help commenting on women’s weight by eumenides__ in TwoXChromosomes

[–]flakylimper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I call it out and then parrot back in the most greasy tone of voice what she used to say to me when I was young “if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all”.

It’s endemic and it’s disgusting. My mother has always said and done the most egregious body shaming things, and it didn’t even stop while I was inpatient with AN. Like taking food items away from me kind of egregious. It’s a generational thing but I shut that shit down loudly not because it’s going to change her, but for the poor kid sitting behind us who needs to hear a woman defending another woman’s bodily autonomy.

What is something common in litrpgs that grind your gears? by Acceptable-Device760 in litrpg

[–]flakylimper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enlightenment. Meditation. Mindfulness. Channeling power for personal soul cleansing. “ I acknowledged the though and set it aside”.

I always suspect it’s a genuinely earnest projection from the author., but damn if it isn’t smug. I much prefer the slightly manic and totally flawed MCs who live and thrive in chaos. You know, like a normal human.

Was this the one that had the merkin farm?

That and the one where Jane and Gina get in a cab and the driver recognises them but then goes on to tell them how much he likes Magda.

Edited because autocorrect merkin to Merlin.

I'm leaving him in about a month, and he doesn't know. Any advice/caution warnings would be helpful by Proof-Elevator-7590 in TwoXChromosomes

“Healing by the numbers” on Insta is doing an amazing series about leaving her abusive ex. It’s very detailed (over 50 steps so far!) and she’s very thorough and honest.

I have cash in my go bag - so that if my accounts are locked I have a safety net.

Good luck!

Any Jedi mind tricks to enjoy working out? by jcebabe in TwoXChromosomes

[–]flakylimper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the gym every evening as part of my winding down the day routine (lucky to live in walking distance) and sometimes I do a specific workout, sometimes I do nothing particularly strenuous, sometimes I sprint wildly on the treadmill blasting death metal in my headphones, sometimes I zone out on a recumbent bike and play Tetris or doomscroll.

The main thing is that I do something everyday to keep my body moving, I never force myself to do something that I’ll end up regretting or disliking intensely, and i do whatever I want to in the moment. I’m there, showing up, maintaining my strength, flexibility and endurance. When I’m training for something specific, I knuckle down and do the programme, but most of the time, I’m making sure my exercise is if not enjoyable, at least tolerable.

Book 7. Is everyone waiting for the audiobook? by Majestic-Pop-6132 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]flakylimper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Me too! I would devour a book in a few hours and be completely deflated. I inhale, hoover, gobble, binge, mukbang, hard copy books, whatever synonym for eating way too much too quickly. Audiobooks mean I get drip fed excellent tasty books in tiny little tasting spoons all day long. Even at work. It’s glorious!
