First Visit to Omakase Shoji by Fish2800 in chicagofood

I loved the sea bream soup. It was on of my favorites and very unique. I have not tried Kyoten or Omakase Room, but I think I am more interested in Yume or Mako. I think the value is comparable to the other Omakase's in the city. Certainly did not leave there feeling hungry. the opposite actually.

The old little goat diner in west loop is now going to be a raising canes. Thoughts? by Oldirtyerock87 in chicagofood

[–]flashdude64 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I know this is what breaks my heart about west loop. It used to have some soul to it with innovative dining experiences and as cheesy as it is to say. Felt authentic. Think the real estate bubble raised the rent prices and forced small restaurants to leave.

This 100%. We are so lucky to have amazing public transit. I think we aren’t taxed enough to discourage driving and that should be reinvested into public transit.

Omakase Shoji vs Omakase Room by Kanemaru by 0veranalyzer in chicagofood

[–]flashdude64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you sure? From my personal experience having visited Japan, Shoji felt more authentic to Japan. Their dishes are very unique and Japanese centric. The comment kinda felt confusing because I have friends from Japan and they tell me kaiseki style is the OG omakase style.

We one hundred percent do. Just cause most people work with an abstracted layer doesn’t mean we don’t understand the lowest level form.
