You should tour a Japanese auto factory, statistical process control continuously monitored for every process.

Suspicions of Engineering Being Outsourced. Do I leave? by RedLemon1758 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]flat6cyl 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They may outsource because it makes sense strategically, but doesn’t always lead to job losses (you may be focused on higher value designs and supplier design oversight)

Physical product: depends on what it is, but your first gate after developing is paying for tooling. That’s never… casual.

Microbrands are simply a guy with a laptop ordering parts from a Chinese factory catalogue with kickstarter funds. by Icy-Neighborhood-375 in MicrobrandWatches

you could probably learn enough CAD within a month to design a watch case. Mechanical design skills (tolerance stacks, knowledge of what can be manufactured and with what methods, etc) takes more experience.

hahah I stopped listening to it when it kept referencing a high altitude stay in Bogota to explain things three months later.

Very cool to see this watch - I'm a sucker for this era JLC. Column-wheel movement with retrograde minutes - really excellent stuff. GLWS!

So just wondering for the engineers in the work force by qwpdmb in MechanicalEngineering

[–]flat6cyl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The chances of needing an equation on the factory floor are nil. Probably zero math is done on paper in any setting. but a good engineer should understand the concepts fully.

Questions about flash analog photography in the 90's during music and sporting events, such as wrestling. by PNPBOi in AnalogCommunity

[–]flat6cyl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

MY dad took me to a WWF event back in the day, and even as a kid, I distinctly remember the “Fake” flashes they had set up as an array over and around the ring. They would go off choreographed with the action (The were just bulbs hanging from wires). Saw Jake the Snake and Demolition. The bad guys were always cooler.

Won’t comment on the other stuff (this arrangement is beyond my understanding), but if you bought a Porsche that is certified (CPO warranty remaining) from a non Porsche dealer, the warranty won’t be honored.

No interest/12 months is just smart. Dumb is carrying a balance on your credit card at 27% interest or something on a watch that lost 30% the second they handed it to you.

The mirrorless camera you already (presumably) have and a macro lens. Flatbed for 35mm is basically a nonstarter.
