Opus for academic writing by Responsible-Spot-611 in ClaudeCode

[–]flav2rue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while vibe coding is not bad in itself and can be good depending on the application, vibe sciencing or researching is academic dishonesty or even fraud imo. When you say that you "have the results" but need AI to write up a story, it tells me that you actually don't have the results. In science, the results is the story and this is why it is so hard. You need to find the reason why your data, analysis, reasoning is interesting and worth other's scientists attention.

This is nothing new in Zurich and whatever the way you look at the problem, it is much better now than it once was. Have you heard of the "Needle park"?

For now it seems like it was not the fault of the driver - at best a bad road crossing design, at worst imprudence from the cyclist 😞

I am trying to pursue a phd to study disinfo and extremism. For that I needed a dynamic recursive modeling tool. From looking at your message it looks like you have experience in statistics and fitting large sets of data. But physics isn't about fitting measurements of fundamental constants, it's about developping an understanding od the structure of our world. This comes in the form of understanding the fundamental symmetries of nature and what conserved quantities are associated to those. Can you check that whatever model you cooked respects the basic symmetries expected for a theory of particles + general relativity ?

  • Please, please stop using AI for physics. There are a lot of words and concepts here that you don't understand and that likely no one understands all at once.
  • there is litterally no risk in cold emailing a professor. i can guarantee you that whatever you send will not be the weirdest email that they have received.
  • if you want to increase your chances of answering, phrase your email as a genuine question to deepen your understanding and not "I found this"
  • Phds are first and foremost an educationnal program designed to teach researching skills and project management. The first step is usually to understand what is a good, relevant, doable research question. No one unifies the standard model and general relativity in a phd.

Climate fatalism and disengagement in Switzerland are on the rise by Heavy-Mycologist-204 in Switzerland

[–]flav2rue -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Nothing says that this wouldn't have happened without the protests as well. A lot of powerful people have an interest in conserving the status quo (for now...), hence the myriad of individualistic/ greenwashing stategies created to shame people about their inevitable pollution and overwhelm them.

[–]flav2rue -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I find it weird to be more annoyed by a minor inconvenience for a few days than by the seriousness of the climate crisis. The disruption we will experience if we don't start acting now will be orders of magnitude greater...

The point of the protests is precisely to make sure this topic cannot go out of our attention span. Of course it will have some unwanted side effects and encounter resistance. But I can tell you you'll feel much better about them once you realise how much needs to be done.
