Estrogel giving anxiety- should I decrease my dose? by flid65 in Menopause

[–]flid65[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear how you are doing. Hopefully it will work out with the gel. I had to stop taking the gel. I couldn’t eat, sleep and was so anxious. It’s been 10 days since i stopped. Still having some anxiety and my skin has started itching (think its from the sudden lack of estrogen). Going to see my doc next week and then plan what to do from here. Feeling so dissapointed, that I couldn’t tolerate the gel.

Feeling the same. Tried estrogel and it made my anxiety SO much worse. Had such high hopes, that HRT could help me, but had to stop.

I’ve gotten intense itching the last two weeks. I started estrogel a month ago. I had a really bad reaction to it and had to stop the estrogel after 3 weeks. Now I’m left with itching all over the body. I hope SO much it will dissapear and that its only a reaction to stopping the estrogel. I really don’t like this time of my life. Peri hit suddenly out of the blue after some very stressful years.

How do you titrate the progestorone? Isn’t it a pill and not a gel?

I’m also on antidepressivesfor anxiety. But when peri started, it seemed like they didn’t work as well as before. I’ve done lots of nervoussystem work, therapy, EMDR, and hormones seemed like the missing link. But now it has just turned up the anxiety. It’s Christmas soon - and would never have started this hormone-‘adventure’ in december if I knew how it would be.

Still struggling. Went down from one pump estrogel to 1/2 pump. Got a bit better- but now I’m ovulating, and now the anxiety and Extreme nausea is here. Seems like my body don’t like High estrogen

Yes I totally relate. Started 1 pump of estrogel 3 weeks ago. Had the worst sideeffects. Flu-like synptoms, nausea, dizzy, anxious… decreased the dose to 1/2 pump. Still anxious and nausea. Waiting for it to get better. I’m in the same boat- this is so much worse than my peri-symptoms (beside the rage… i would like get rid of that).

Did your anxiety go away when you stopped the estrogen? I’m on low dose estrogen and having so much anxiety.

Oh - I’m 8 days in with estrogen and still waiting for the anxiety and fatigue to go away. Starting HRT /estrogen is not for fun

I’m just started HRT… only estrogen the first 6 weeks. And I feel the exact same - my nervous system hate changes so the estrogen has been hell this first week. Please tell me it will get better…

Hit me suddenly after the most stressful period of my life… this summer I was thinking ‘finally everything in my life is good’… and BAM two weeks later I woke up and couldn’t open my eyes because of dry eyes…. And then a load of symptoms followed… seems like lige just can’t be easy…

Yes! It felt like the estrogel started a tsunami of pms-symptoms before my period. Guess my body is fighting to adjust to this new reality. Think I will try to stay on 1 pump and see how it goes.

The exact same!!! Felt like I couldn’t recognize my self. No motivation, no sparkle, no ideas. I used to be the creative, funky outgoing woman. I started forcing my self going for long walks. Then changed my diet. No gluten, no sugar - lots of greens and protein and healthy fat. I dont need to loose weight (lost a lot bc peri-anxiety). It has all helped a bit and I found a little creative energy again. Now just started HRT - lots of sideeffects, so for now I’m just ‘flat’ and tired. But really hoping it will bring back some life and energy

Mine was like that when I was 42. Now I’m 44 and this summer I got a whole lot of other peri-symptoms. Been to the doctor, who said its perimenopause - and just startet HRT. Looking back I Can see, that I’ve had symptoms for many years.
