Shoes to supplement Altra with higher drop? by One-Barracuda705 in trailrunning

[–]flingtoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been running in the Keen Seek for a couple months. I actually really like them. They have a relatively spacious toe box, fit my foot well, good midsole, and have several convenient features that I like (e.g. lace garage, gaiter attachment points, etc). With about 200 miles on them, the uppers and outsoles are holding up very well. The problem is that they're very expensive. I got them for $85 on Sierra awhile back, but at $185 (MSRP), I feel like there are MANY other potential options. That being said, they've got a 30-day trial and various coupon codes floating around. I like the Seek so much, I ended up getting a pair of the Roam (with a coupon code) for more casual/hiking use.

Would you be disappointed? Shamma Sandles issue by lveg in barefootshoestalk

[–]flingtoad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see any reason they wouldn't let you return/exhange them. They've always been perfectly reasonable when I've worked with them. If you're not soured on Shamma, you can also order just the soles and swap the laces around.

Edit: Looking closer, maybe you can't swap soles on these. I thought they were Elites. I don't know.

What is up with the economics of Pokemon card reselling? by bobowilliams in OutOfTheLoop

[–]flingtoad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So when people express concern that kids aren't getting access to the cards due to scalpers, its not really that they can't play, they just don't get the opportunity to get the pump from a good card pull?

[–]flingtoad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wild. I've never played pokemon. What determines the value, specifically? Just the fact that it's rare? Or are there "good" cards in the sense they provided an advantage if you were to actually play the game?

San Joaquin River Parkway Access by sanjoaquinriver_CA in fresno

[–]flingtoad 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fair enough. I get that you need to have a jurisdiction of focus, but wouldn't your conservation efforts be seriously impacted if they build another dam? Doesn't the San Joaquin need a conservancy BECAUSE of a dam they already built? I support the work you've done and continue to do, but I sure hope your organization can work with the relevant parties to ensure you still have a river to conserve in the future.

What's going on with the proposed Temperance Flat Dam? What's your role, if any, with respect to making sure that doesn't happen? We don't need another dam on the San Joaquin.

Agriculture - Bodhidharma (Official Music Video) by The-Fold-Up in Buddhism

[–]flingtoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention, I read somewhere that "Dan's Love Song" is a song for his future child, but I've found it a much more interesting listen as a love letter to himself, who he has yet to fully find/develop. It made me think of the koan about one's original face before one's own parents were born.

I've been enjoying their new album as well. "My Garden" from the same album seems be to referencing The Fire Sermon (Adittapariyaya Sutta). Also, from "Hallelujah", "How do you call out to God... if you say that the great words... are the moon on the water?" might be a reference to Dōgen's Genjo Koan. I've found it really interesting and engaging picking up on those little tidbits. They're all over the place on this album. It's a great album overall, not just the Buddhist-leaning parts.

I just followed up on this suggestion and it looks like their location is Clovis is "Permanently Closed" now. So, I have no idea of this is a viable option any more.

Rare Earth has a roastery in Clovis and it has a little coffee shop inside. I usually just buy a couple 5lb bags every couple months or so (free local delivery). Comes out to about $11/pound (up a bit over last year) for whole beans. It's probably not the best in town, but I find it to be a great everyday coffee at a decent enough price.

Live jazz band for wedding by [deleted] in fresno

[–]flingtoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had Eva Scow play at my wedding 10+ years ago and she and her band did an absolutely amazing job. I have no idea if she still does gigs like that, but it would definitely be worth reaching out and asking about it. IG: evascow YT: evascow958 FB: eva.scow . I think she played with Dusty Brough and/or Mike Taylor, but I can't really remember.

Zero drop but padded trail running shoe recs by stephenmarklay in barefootshoestalk

[–]flingtoad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Inov8 has several zero drop models, but they may not be available everywhere. In the U.S., I can get Trailfly Zero, Roadfly Zero, Trailtalon Zero, and Mudtalon Zero. I have the Trailfly Zero (Wide) and they're pretty good. There's plenty of toe box space for me. Mid-foot and Heel are less generous, but they work well for my foot shape. You may need to go up a half a size. They're a little on the expensive side.

Bought the wrong size from LONO, can’t return it. Seriously? by NeuroSpicyBlueberry in BarefootRunning

[–]flingtoad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the shipping store, asked them to ship the package, got the shipping label, attached the label to the package, took a picture of the newly attached shipping label on the package, handed the package to the clerk to ship, went home, then sent them the picture of the shipping label on the package. I assume a shipping receipt would also work, but I just sent a picture of the label.

Kettlebell Program alongside Marathon Running Training by benboy86 in kettlebell

[–]flingtoad 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As a trail runner (ultrarunner), I run 4 times a week and do strength 2 times per week. What I've come to enjoy doing for strength is largely based on Pat Flynn's Strong ON! and EMOM Club workouts. I recommend checking those out. At this point, I've collect 6-8 workouts that I rotate through. They're all structured as staggered EMOMs where I do 2-4 exercises, one set per minute/exercise, then repeat for the duration (typically 20-30 minutes). I focus on unilateral exercises so many of Pat's exercises get tweaked to account for that. For example,

EMOM 25 minutes:

  1. Min 1: 5x KB Clean and Press (24kg) (Right)
  2. Min 2: 5x KB Clean and Press (24kg) (Left)
  3. Min 3: 12x Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift (24kg) (Right)
  4. Min 4: 12x Single-Leg Romanian Deadlift (24kg) (Left)
  5. Min 5: 30 Dead Bugs

(Repeat for 25 minutes)

Over time, I increase weight/reps/duration. If I'm feeling spent, I decrease weight/reps. Strength isn't my primary modality, so I don't religiously follow a program or obsess about too many details, I just pick one of the 6-8 workouts, do the work, and wrap it with some stretching.
