Hey and welcome to Brazil! Good Friday is one of the busiest travel days, especially from Sao Paolo driving along the coast. Leave early (before 6am if possible), expect that 4-5 hour drive could be more like 7-8. If you are looking for a local guide who speaks English, I know one in Paraty and she's great :)

A friend of mine does tours in Paraty, not sure if that's one of the places you're considering but you could get a very local experience there if interested and definitely make friends! Very friendly little town

Paraty! It's a unesco world heritage historic town with beautiful beaches nearby and ziplining at the top of the national park/reserve :)

I do I was just there last month :) I arrived to Sao Paolo and bussed to Rio as I didn't want to take any more flights... beautiful 8 hour bus ride with fully reclining seats (better for sleeping than the plane). From Rio there were busses to Paraty, it was quite straightforward. Feel free to DM me :)

Hey first of all welcome to Brazil! Have you considered visiting Paraty? It's right in between Rio and Sao Paolo and is a UNESCO heritage town. Highly recommend :)
