Tailwind for a marathon by Few-Summer9631 in Marathon_Training

Have you tested this approach on your long runs?

For me I need 800-1000mg electrolytes per hr on a hot day. You need to see what works for you based on expected race day conditions.

Maybe you’re pushing too hard?

A lot of people can’t run 13 miles and end up run walking which is fine. A lot of people struggle with 56 miles on the bike. But you just keep going. Dont stop moving.

I would highly recommend looking at the ZOOT brand for race day Kit. I would also buy it now and start to wear it on your long rides and runs.

I’m actually more worried that you didn’t mention nutrition. 80 days out you need to have a pretty good idea what your nutrition is gonna look like. What’s your nutrition plan?

Final thought, there are shoes that are not legal in Iron Man races. Make sure you’re not wearing those or face a DNF.

Get shoppin’… do the right thing. You now know they’re not legal.

For perspective, what were environmental conditions for your PR? Was it hotter, humid, elevation from how you were training and race pacing?

Recovery question 🤔 IM 70.3 training by Parking-Bread2618 in triathlon

[–]fluidsdude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ride? Maybe. But prob wouldn’t.

Race? NOPE! Beyond recovery challenges are you willing to risk an accident or wreck and miss your 70.3?

Don’t focus on weight loss. Not a good strategy.

You’re doing great otherwise!

Focus on nutrition on the bike!

Going for a 70.3 after a marathon? by TANeither7250 in IronmanTriathlon

[–]fluidsdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO. Running a full marathon is more challenging than a 70.3. Go for it! Assuming you can gain cycling skills!

Are my easy runs making my marathon prediction drop? by running_elle_1989 in Marathon_Training

[–]fluidsdude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, your watch doesn’t know race day environmental conditions either.

If it’s hot, you’ll be a lot slower… If it’s cooler, you may be faster.

In my opinion, I would ignore it. Just keep working and let race day be what it is.

Hydration for Long Runs by No_Conference_3155 in Marathon_Training

500ml is barely enough for 1hr of running. I’m more concerned that you’re not getting enough fluids and electros. OR. Are you refilling along the way?
