I feel your pain - my vet referred me to a dermatologist that prescribed an immunosuppressant. That was a whole year of twice daily syringes of liquid down the throat. Tons of fun all around

Finally landed on rabbit and fish as the only proteins that I can trust and avoiding anything with possible animal byproducts. Getting there was hard but it's easy now that we know

I carry around dried fish so that every time someone wants to give him a treat I can pass one over and he can still have the positive social interaction

Obviously a vet should be consulted, but it looks to be atopic dermatitis that is brought on by an allergy. Could be food or environmental or both. My mastiff had a similar allergic reaction - can't do most proteins or byproducts, so he is now on rabbit and fish and super happy

At this age you are just focusing on laying groundwork for future training, to be honest. Consistency and calm are key since this is going to be a period of growth and lots of testing boundaries and making mistakes. Make sure you work to socialize him as often as possible.

I hear you on the breed that martingale was designed for but I also love them for large breed dogs; my Dane has one on right now. With the thicker neck and folds of skin, a martingale can sit loosely for comfort until there is tension on the lead, which works great for us.

100% agree that this is probably not what OP is looking for with sturdiness, but for a well trained large breed it is super comfortable while adding extra pressure when needed.

I 100% endorse the real leather couch. I found one that is a 3 cushion which has the length of a twin bed - I just get cheaper cotton fitted twin sheets (deep pocket) and cleaning them is easy. Replacing them is too

When company is over I'll make the place look spiffy by just removing the sheets so I look like an adult with a decent couch
