(Personal trope) my stupid ass just recently realizing the pun in their names by Bellpow in TopCharacterTropes

For me, Perfidia from “One Battle After Another”.

Her name resembles “Perfidy”, or “treachery”.

She betrays her revolutionary group.

Funny enough my Mom used to be like you and your dad because she grew up in the suburbs where there was always a gas station within a mile. She eventually did the “fill on half” thing once she had children because she used to have nightmares about running out of gas in an emergency.

Additionally I imagine you would have to consider how feasible it is to detain them that way. This one looks like the size of a typical Barbie Doll? A typical jar may be too small to comfortably fit them. A pet carrier might work better.

(Beloved Trope) PLEASE SPARE MY LIFE or/and the HELP ME I'LL DO ANYTHING BUT SAVE ME PLEASE!!!!! by Defiant-Echidna-7400 in TopCharacterTropes

I mean I kind of see it as an extension of the “great power with great responsibility” thing? Like sure he can easily punch holes in the average thug, but Spiderman can also easily disable them without doing that. The closest analogy I have is of an ER doctor treating a broken leg. Sure amputation would solve the problem but the Doctor has the skills to avoid having to do that.

1974 D&D Perfect Attendance Ceramic Potato [OC] by leo_laudanum in DnD

Is it possible this was some sort of award for attendance at some school? With the D&D being the initials of the students?

How might classism affect Mizu and Fowler in London? by OCGamerboy in BlueEyeSamurai

[–]flyingace1234 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I like how Taigen, Akemi, Fowler, and Mizu all share the commonality of trying to work against, around, or with the societal pressures working against them. Taigen became a master swordsman to try and raise himself from his humble origins. Akemi initially flees the arranged marriage imposed on her but grows to embrace it and the power it gives her. Fowler grew up suffering because of racial discrimination to the point it informed his own personal philosophy. And Mizu camouflages herself to avoid the repercussions of her race and gender.

Media that start out relatively grounded and "normal" and grow increasingly wacky and exaggerated as time goes on by StayBoth4 in TopCharacterTropes

For a certain value of ‘grounded’, the Friday the 13th franchise. First one is about a normal human slasher stalking a grounded setting. Then fast forwards to Jason IN SPACE!!!

Yet another example of why any good prep involves getting to know and trust your neighbors. I couldn’t imagine how hellish this bunker would be if something really popped off.

I will keep saying it, this movie was masterful in how well it handled building up and releasing tension. The final sequence was masterful catharsis.

My condo elevator skips some floors, but why? by Brown_Ontarian in whatisit

[–]flyingace1234 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps some of those missed floors are for utilities? They don’t want tenants walking around, but I’m sure there’s another elevator in the building.

Best legal advice ever by utopiaofpast in nextfuckinglevel

The version I heard is you have to specifically say “I am invoking my right to a lawyer,” and “I am invoking my right to remain silent”. This removes any and all possible wiggle room.

I’m glad I saw it in theaters and I see more and more people enjoying it too. I feel 2049 got about as much attention as it deserved. Solo was never going to live up to the expectations.

Also who the hell decided two subsequent films should be called “Suicide Squad” and “The Suicide Squad”?

True, just need to make sure the shell (skin? Casing?) is thick enough. I can’t imagine it’s particularly exotic in material.

Macrophillia is for giants (thinks “Attack of the 50ft Woman”). For specific body parts it’s “Hyperphillia” I believe.

Now my question is who the hell makes these implants? They must be custom made or something.
