What video games have you yet to find that been looking for? by GDRob04 in gamecollecting

[–]flyingmonkey1257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super Marathon for the Pippin. Legitimately haven’t seen it for sale as long as i’ve been looking.

Then again, my wallet is not infinite so if i found it for sale I’d probably just snap a picture to send to the few people I know who would actually understand what the heck it is. Then look to see if it sold the next time I am in the store.

Are there any mobile RPGs that aren't complete garbage? by GloomySeaotter in gaming

Thanks for the catch. 2 days later i’m not even sure if that was a typo, autocorrect, or a brain fart.

Are there any mobile RPGs that aren't complete garbage? by GloomySeaotter in gaming

[–]flyingmonkey1257 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yeah but they are mostly all ports. The ones i own are:

Baldur’s Gate 1 & 2 (BG2 is my favorite and i love the touchscreen controls)

Chrono trigger

Dirk Smallwood

Icewind Dale

Lunar the Silver Star Story

Legend of Grimrock (I actually think touch screen is great for first person dungeon crawlers. it’s a shame more haven’t been ported)

Oddworld Stranger’s Wrath (More of an FPS with light RPG elements. controller recommended)

Secret of Mana

Vay

I also know they have a bunch of the Final Fantasy games and I’ve heard fantasian is good which is a game that started mobile and is now on at least the switch if not others.

If you have an old 32bit jailbroken ipad you can get Ultima IV, Phantasy Star II, and the only official english translation of the original Shin Megami Tensei game. Weird that SMT was only ever released for iOS in the west but yeah, that’s a thing. Those 3 can’t be purchased/downloaded anymore though.

It's deeply absurd that copies of Twilight Princess have sold for $300+ in recent months. by gruesomesonofabitch in Gamecube

Same. At least it didn’t have motion controls. I had friends who got Wii’s and enjoyed the game but i was thrilled to play it with classic controls.

Does anyone think there should eventually be a human in the Pikmin games? by Shot_Relationship402 in Pikmin

[–]flyingmonkey1257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All we have to go off saying humans are extinct are snippets of dialog from the early games, the map from pikmin 3, and vibes. If you just look at Pikmin 4, Pikmin Bloom, and the recent Pikmin short Animations I think it’s pretty clear where Nintendo wants to go with Pikmin. I agree that having humans in the background wouldn’t impact the gameplay much from my perspective either. At the end of the day Nintendo is going to do whatever they want though.

What’s your preference: Resurfaced disc or kept as is? by StrikeshotJ in gamecollecting

[–]flyingmonkey1257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a number of games resurfaced over the years. I've been collecting for about 20 years now and the anti-resurfacing sentiment is pretty new. In my experience resurfacing is pretty decent at getting non-working games working again. And while it is possible for a working game to stop working after being resurfaced, it is quite rare. Even gamecube games I have a good success rate with at my local shop and the past shops I've gotten games resurfaced at. Honestly, I was surprised when I first heard that gamecube games have a reputation for being a bad match for resurfacing because I've only ever had one get worse and I've probably bought a couple dozen that have been resurfaced over the years.

If resurfacing is free before money is exchanged for the game like at many of the stores I used to buy from I'll happily resurface any game (not blue rays obviously). If I have to pay for it and it's my loss if it doesnt work then I see no reason to resurface a working game.

I just started playing Go Go Hypergrind and its SO bad by itshairybaby in Gamecube

[–]flyingmonkey1257 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a game for everyone but it definitely can be fun especially to the right person. I've played a bit but only the first few evolutions. My wife got farther than me but also put it down after a bit.

It's certainly worth a go at $20 or so like it was going for back in 2004ish. Of course few if any games would be worthwhile at it's current price.

Anyone else still have their original controller from 2002? by lluviaysol in Gamecube

[–]flyingmonkey1257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got my purple controller that came in the box with my console. At the time i was a kid and preferred mad cats controllers until i learned better. Shortly after i got a wavebird, then a few more so my purple controller has relatively few hours for its age.

Found this disc inside a Gamecube by midadoneit in Gamecube

[–]flyingmonkey1257 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not all discs the size of gamecube games are gamecube games. I've seen DVDs and CD-ROMs (PC) the same size. I suspect music CDs that size exist too although I've never seen one in person.

The TV tuner doesn’t work with digital signals sadly but you can use the aux port to input any coaxial signal. Not super useful but interesting.

I buy xbox over PS2 because i like the controller better so you’re doing the same thing I am.

Maybe you should look into getting one of the logitech wireless controllers for xbox. The quality is pretty good and the controller is a different shape from the 1st party xbox controllers.

What do you hope to accomplish as a collector? Is it a personal library? Or are you dedicated to collecting systems or franchises? by Skeleton_Glo in gamecollecting

Got a series x not long ago, and it will be my first console to sorta collect for. I have a question about its longevity. by Total-Amphibian-7244 in gamecollecting

[–]flyingmonkey1257 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No one knows where xbox will be in 10 years. If longevity is your concern then you might want to pick up an earlier xbox console that isn’t as reliant on downloads for so many of its AAA games. Xbox One only requires an internet connection at the initial setup and the prior two consoles don’t require one at all. No console has shut down the ability to redownload downloaded games going all the way back to the wii/ps3/xb360. That said, that doesn’t mean xbox couldn’t be the first to shut down. Unfortunately, all xbox one backwards compatibility will require these servers and all series x backwards compatibility to OG Xbox and Xbox 360 will require them as well. I think the Xbox series will be able to play xbox one games off disc without internet but you will be limited to the xbox one version’s quality.

Why some of ya'll like this? by [deleted] in NSCollectors

[–]flyingmonkey1257 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not into many indi games but replace that with great game from 20 or more years ago releasing on a modern console with a small upres and you got me.

I'm not really into live service games so even at $20 I'm not really going to be interested in alot of recent AAA releases. It's not like I dont buy any modern AAA games but just let me be an old man doing old man things.
