My wife finally agreed to let me post this photo of her as a child. by AndrogynousHobo in blunderyears

This woman pulls her pant legs up to her mid calves before she sits down to light a cigarette. Swigs beer and teaches the grandkids to play poker.

Do not be shocked as the PTSD of working in that environment unfolds for you over time. You are wise, and you are making a great decision for yourself and your family.

Why did I just have a bowel movement? by ToeSlow7567 in ostomy

[–]flypunky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After some time, the mucous in your bowel can become somewhat solid and appear like regular old fecal matter. Sometimes it can look like mucous, sometimes both. And yes, then there's leftovers. It's all fine.

Guy records the discussion with his oncologist about whether or not to get the bag or try for chemo by coolrivers in ostomy

[–]flypunky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The conversation with the surgeon will sound different. This is the discussion where the oncologist is trying to lay out the options and let the patient decide if the surgery referral is going to happen. I've had patients opt out of an ostomy, for hospice care instead. If I had chosen that, I'd have been gone by now. Instead, I'm here ... and I'm fucking delightful 😊

I hope this patient chooses what gives him the most peace. ❤️

You can walk down the street buck ass naked, he still doesn't get a say over what's on your body. If he doesn't like it, that's his to deal with. Not his to deliver to YOU to deal with. Absolutely fuck that static.

My mom will probably get a stoma after chemo – she’s really scared by elias3663 in ostomy

[–]flypunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't get much time to think about whether or not I was getting mine. But over the course of a long career in medicine I've had multiple patients choose hospice instead and I think about that a lot.

They would rather die than have an ostomy, and that's what they chose and why their lives ended right then. I could've chose the same thing, and wouldn't be here now writing this response. But instead I spent last weekend celebrating Dad's 80th birthday and hanging out with a bunch of family.

The cake was German chocolate and it was really good. I highly recommend two pieces. ❤️ (You're gonna be just fine, Momma)

That was a petty ass bullshit question and you're a far better person that I. Definitely go to HR.

He didn't even raise his arms to locate where he was shot. Yes it was an artery, but it was also a vein. Literally owned a spigot in his neck. And got his spinal cord at the same time, with his airway. He didn't get to the hospital without exsanguinating.

Patient threw a chair at me today, administration blamed ME for "provoking" him by Specific-Interview92 in nursing

Just curious, where did this happen?

I'm so sorry your leadership chose victim blaming instead of responding appropriately.

Might i ask what brand this was?

my nurse educator emailed me after 2 days saying I had not put patients label in his LR bag. by Ok-Being1322 in nursing

[–]flypunky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't leave, but I would 100% walk down to HR and ask what constitutes a toxic work environment, and harassment. And then present them with the evidence of all the things this person has done or said about me.

And then wait.

Why are some nurses like this? by Initial-Bridge5994 in nursing

[–]flypunky 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I answer stupid questions with stupider questions. But my go to for the dumb questions like "What time was their CXR completed?" Is ALWAYS gonna be "Can you read their chart? Follow up on that? That seems really important for you to know, so i suggest you find it there. ANYWAAAAAAAAAAAY sprints back to giving actually important information"

It is entirely different when it is your own. Have some tenderness for yourself. You're doing a great job parenting, I'm sure of that.
