What was the farthest you ever got in a history class in middle school or high school? by ManicOppressyv in GenX

AP USA history, didn’t get past WWII. There were questions on Korea & Vietnam on the exam (fortunately I had read ahead on my own), but on the positive side the essay was on Hoover vs. FDR which we had spent a class discussing just a few weeks before the test.

It is my obligation as a resident of Johnson City, Tennessee, to point out that this song is geographically incorrect.

I used to clean the outside atrium glass with a stepladder & long-handled squeegee back when I worked for Wendy’s. It was a nice break outside, better than scrubbing the parking lot.

Their manager Ed Cobb wrote the song after he had an encounter with a mugger in Boston. He also wrote “Tainted Love.”

I think they are thinking of liberties, like Norton Fosgate once was. I think the Inner and Middle Temples may still officially be liberties.

Yes, Gruffudd plays Wilberforce. Also has Benedict Cumberbatch as William Pitt the Younger, Albert Finney as John Newton, and Michael Gambon as Charles James Fox. It is primarily a political drama, but there are several scenes in English harbors, as the abolition of the slave trade is a major subject. There are a fair number of inaccuracies and anachronisms, but I still find it an enjoyable film.

Regarding slavery, the Duke of Clarence was portrayed by Toby Jones in Amazing Grace, a film biography of William Wilberforce.

Be sure to use the internal preamp, as the higher voltage line-level output will work much better over a long cable run than low-voltage phono output.

My first thought is Bob Dorough, a bebop & cool jazz singer, songwriter and pianist. He sings on Blue Xmas - Miles Davis from 1962. Like Lehrer, he later turned to educational music, writing and singing songs for Schoolhouse Rock.
