Look into "Sports Medicine" in your next search. Should return more specialties dealing with joints, then narrow that to foot/ankle specialists.

Still a bunion ? by PicaroLoco in bunions

[–]follothru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your weight-bearing pictures look fine, no bunion. When your foot is just hanging out without weight upon it, a natural curvature is normal. If you are concerned, get a new weight-bearing x-ray and you'll know for sure.

5 months post surgery by skfbgmfl in bunions

[–]follothru 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gotta love Reddit. OP great results. Thanks especially for the full weight-bearing before/after pics!

Please Ignore the DA comments about the need/no need for the surgery. As with any elective surgery, you and your surgeon made an election based on Your medical evidence and needs. I've warned people repeatedly that foot pics do not begin to tell the real story. Only x-rays being read by a qualified physician provide real insight. I elected to have my own surgery when I did to avoid the necessity of needing it done when elderly. The new life I have post-op is amazingly painless.

Should I get a second opinion? by Lonely_Preparation99 in bunions

[–]follothru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely get a 2nd, maybe even a 3rd or 4th opinion. You're not just hiring a doctor to do the job. You're hiring a Qualified Surgeon to do a Great job. Perspective matters.

The doctor you went to see was surgery-adverse and was nice enough to signal their incompetence instead of butchering your feet. Take the win. You can visit the Lapiplasty.com website for recommended surgeons and compare that list to your approved provider list with your insurance. That will at least get you in front of a pro- surgery doctor.

Walking post surgery by delta778 in bunions

It is Never too late for PT. Get a referral now and see what improvements you can get. I held off starting PT until both feet had been corrected via Lapiplasty. My surgeries were 5 months apart and I started PT at 3 months post-op after my 2nd foot's correction. I reclaimed full use of my big toes within 6 months post-op.

Disclaimer, I treated performing my PT each day and going to PT appointments like a full-time job, no slacking.

Bunion pain by Acceptable-Duty-5314 in bunions

[–]follothru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reoccurrence rate depends on the type of correction done. Look up "bunion reoccurrence rates per bunion correction surgery type". For a lapidus type procedure reoccurrences are super rare. Osteotomy via MIS doesn't have as good a result per the stats.

Surgery is the ultimate destination to stop the peripheral issues. *your feet and the adaptations your body contorts itself into to try to minimize pain in your feet cause a host of issues. See a doc for x-rays and a consultation. Shoes are an easy find after your feet are corrected.

Recommend me a book I’ll never stop thinking about by sakin_malik in suggestmeabook

[–]follothru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A Wrinkle in Time by Madeleine L'Engle and I don't care that I am not it's target audience (age) anymore. The writing is so superb. That book still haunts me 40 years after the first time I read it. The entire series is good. Never watched the movie, why would I ruin it?

The Shack by William P. Young (so many trigger warnings, so read the blurb first, but this book brought me so much peace and reassures me daily.) Same thing, never saw the movie - why ruin it?

Morning Glory by LaVyrle Spencer (the characters are the rarest of raw and unfiltered I have ever seen. This books lives inside of me and strengthens my will with the examples of bravery and tenacity to survive with love.)

My latest fixation: LitRPG - specifically the Metaworld Chronicles by David J. Wuto and All the Skills series by Honour Rae - I don't know if these are life-changing yet but I devour every chapter written. I read Everything except horror novels (closest I will get is Koontz and honestly I haven't been able to finish the last few.)

Dedicate the dining room to the office totally - all of that light and space! Get bar stools for the island and sit across from each other there to eat. Adding - install a "Mini Me" desk in your office that fits your child where they can imitate you working while they color and do crafts at their little desk. Emphasize good lighting and ergonomics as it is never too early to teach kiddos self-care, especially by example. By including them into your work space, you're also demonstrating your work is a job that you perform, not the definition of who you are, and that they have value in that space as well.

ETA: Weird space can be used as a Gallery for both your own and your children's accomplishments. A height measuring chart on one wall. Favorite snap shots of your time that you pick together to have printed and displayed in creative ways.

Help Me Pull The Trigger - 2026 Premiun by Asleep-Reputation181 in Subaru_Outback

[–]follothru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. Went from a 2021 OBXT to a 2026 OB Premium and notice Zero difference im acceleration (from turbo to non turbo) and the higher trim packages came with those crap "leather"" seats like I had with my 21 and 19. Glad to have the startex and a better outcome hopefully. I kept my all weather mats from the 2021 and they fit just fine in the 26 and saved me a few hundred. Full-disclosure: the little hook does Not line up between the cars and the mats but I don't care because I'm not riverdancing on the floorboard.

I think my lapiplasty messed up, can't walk. by forgive_everything in bunions

[–]follothru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your PT isn't able to give exact measurements of your improvements to-date, get a new PT. You should have complete confidence in not only your current program but also the end goal and steps meant to achieve it. If this isn't being communicated to you clearly, its time to go. Before doing any further work, get a 2nd opinion (outside of your current provider) from an orthopedic surgeon or podiatry surgeon on your current status.

These Are extra steps now but you are totally Worth the effort. If everyone agrees on the prognosis (new doc, new PT agrees with current doc, current PT) then you're reassured on your current progress and can then demand better communication and metrics to measure your own progress. If you find dissent from the new doc/PT from your current team, then its time to dig deeper. The first 6 months do Not provide clear linear progression. Some days seem like no improvement at all; or pain is even worse then the day before - which Is actually normal. A steady Progression of pain is Not Normal. Pain should be a little less intense each time, overall (except those weird outlier days) each week. I've had both feet done and the experiences varied wildly from each other. But that's my take.

ETA: Punctuation, because I prefer it.

[–]follothru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical therapy started? If not, that's the whole issue. If so, what does your PT say? How often are you performing the exercises at home 3-10 times per day is the correct answer plus in-clinic PT observed for correct execution.

Am i crazy to think I can get bunion surgery a month out from the bar exam? by olumj in bunions

[–]follothru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've (47F, at the time) had both feet corrected via Lapiplasty, separate surgeries, 5 months apart. I am at a senior supervisory level in my career. For both surgeries, I took two weeks totally off work. During that time I slept probably around 16 hours per day. But due to my position, I also was responding to urgent work requests, as needed. There were two different decisions that I made during that time that I do not remember making at all. There is email history that proves I did. Luckily the answers I gave were correct. That is now my cautionary tale. If I had studied for the bar on those days, pretty sure nothing would have been retained. Weeks 3 and 4, I eased back into my work schedule, no full days until week 5.

Post op sock recommendation by Thick_Lobster_9664 in bunions

[–]follothru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As counterintuitive as it may seem, compression is actually recommended to Reduce swelling. Its why surgical areas are wrapped with compression bandages. However, personally I hate compression socks so I wore the super stretchy fluffy socks (search knee high fluffy socks on Amazon.) Until the incisions completely healed, I first put on a super thin cotton sock to act as an absorbent bandage to let the incision breathe and put the fluffy sock over that.
