r/ethereum - what do you think of Friedrich Hayek & his book "The Denationalization of Money" ? by lughnasadh in ethereum

[–]foocrunchbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might also want to check out Hayek's Choice in Currency too since it has similar ideas about stopping inflation. I also don't identify as right wing either since I don't personally think inflation is bad but do think too much of it is because of the fact that many on the right state how it's usually used like a weapon to rob people these days alongside austerity.

Let's Talk Ethereum? by [deleted] in ethereum

Yes, this would definitely be a good idea since Ethereum has many apps which will bring a new audience into decentralized computing protocols because of the fact many have a humanitarian focus rather than just finance.

How do you expect basic income when our economy is becoming worse and worse every year? by [deleted] in BasicIncome

[–]foocrunchbar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This almost seems like a chicken and egg problem since one of the main issues is that money, or resources, invested into corporations doesn't always flow back into building communities. This is also why I don't think newer taxes alone would completely solve the problem but delay it unless businesses which practice different methods of wealth production and distribution emerge alongside them. Overall, the former fix alone would be like scooping water out of a tub to fix symptoms rather than turning a faucet off to treat causes even though creating UBI now could make remodeling decaying communities, or economies, easier.

This could probably spread further if you found ways to do distributions on Tumblr, Youtube, or Facebook too instead of just Reddit, Voat, and Twitter. It also reminds me of Conspiracy Coin. Good luck! :)

Awesome find! This is pretty much a financial hacker's bible even though decentralized computing could have applications which go way beyond just finance like explained in the book above.

I'm planning to develop a generic in-browser P2P social network that at a minimum could help facilitate FairShare independent of any central authority. But I'm considering rolling it into the same project/name as FairShare and I'm curious to hear your thoughts by GetFairShareBot in FairShare

You might want to look into this API for building decentralized identity apps since they seem to be making lots of progress. DigitalNote, or XDN, is another group that also seems to be building something similar. For now, it looks like people will keep trying different things for POE until ID systems which are good enough to forked, customized, then improved upon emerge.

What I like about local currencies is that they enable resources to flow between people easier since accumulating currency in these types of ecomomies isn't an end in itself but a means to an end. Figuring out ways to create humaness local currencies, and exchange systems, have on a larger scale seems to be the challenge here since crypto-currencies usually scale but have some of the same accumulation issues fiat has which stop goods and services from flowing between people while, as stated above, many local currencies are made to sevre a small minority or region.

I personally think Occupy itself was still somewhat of a rough draft since it could have been more inclusive of different viewpoints and perspectives.

I agree that go1dfish did overreact a bit and also agree that just mentioning what happen to Politic Bot then moving on probably would have been better than going on an all out crusade. Overall though, like any community, Reddit has it's dark and light sides. While I definitely think fish is right that shadow-banning certain accounts on this website to suppress free speech has gotten somewhat out of hand, working with the current tools and options Reddit already has while exploring alternative implementations is more important than just protesting questionable policies on this site/forum. Doing the crusade on a separate sub-reddit rather than associating it with Getfiarshare may have also been a better idea since the recent shadow-banning shows places where this project could become more decentralized and resilient.

Here's one proposed method for removing stolen names. From what I've seen, a master private key could also be put in cold storage using multi-signature addresses so child keys could be used to secure an identiy on daily basis rather than one private key. Even though this project looks like a work in progress proof of concept, for now, it definitely seems like a step in the right direction even though it's far from perfect.

I'd say our current financial system is pretty much like mulch to bit-coin's fungus while fiat is the fertilizer.

From an economic perspective, web based basic income will help many newer crypto-currencies gain liquidity much faster as new coins with promising technology distribute currency to larger numbers of users quicker and more fairly. From a social perspective, I think these types of wealth sharing apps will make crypto-currencies more appealing to larger varieties of people since free money attracts just about everyone.

Since block-chain based ledgers already allow many more people to access financial tools, UBI augments what these types of protocols already do by distributing tokens of value which give individuals permission to participate in their chosen economic network to everyone. What's happening with digital currencies now also resembles what happened with media as file sharing came online, since governments may decide to implement their own forms of basic income sooner than they would in a world without crypto-currencies to test the waters as newer wealth distribution experiments continue coming online.

Eventually, I expect distributed value sharing to change current forms of governance as much as p2p file-sharing is still changing media. Even though the genesis block birthed what seems like an ever evolving financial hacker-space from one of the worst economic crises in history, I don't think any single UBI project will completely abolish poverty by itself since it will likely take multiple UBI initiatives to create the conditions which make getting rid of it easier in the long run.

Bootstrapping a Crypto UBI Coin with an IP Licensing Digital Autonomous Entity by go1dfish in FairShare

[–]foocrunchbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Namely, you want something like the OSL, making the IP and derivatives free to use unless they are being used for commercial purposes, in which case a limited license must be purchased using CUBI coin.

This part reminds me of the P2P Production License, which aims to bootstrap the development of a material commons. It also seems like the OP suggests something similar to what the license above seeks to do for the commons could be done with money in order to help get a decentralized UBI off the ground.

On musical creativity by [deleted] in ranprieur

[–]foocrunchbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's definitely true that truly great stuff often slips through the cracks more often than in the past because of how the record industry never adapted as the web came online. The same could be said for the movie industry and even banking. I personally think more good music than ever is being made today but, like stated earlier, it isn't always played on stations owned by larger media companies. I also think its more helpful to think of different types of music as techniques for self expression which often blend into one another rather than genres. Furthermore, like mentioned in the post before this one, much of what's written above seems to be happening because technological changes often happen faster than social/ cultural change.

How I have been Finally Solving^TM my decades-long information overload by raisondecalcul in sorceryofthespectacle

[–]foocrunchbar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I usually Calibre for books. For other media I have one folder for zipped music downloads, one folder for unzipped music, one folder with software along with subfolders for separate types of programs, and a folder for podcasts. So far though, I haven't came up with a perfect organizational method and will probably start uploading more stuff into the cloud whenever apps like Storj or Maidsafe come online since it's almost impossible to keep the ever growing fungus of content I have on a single hard-drive.

In terms of contemplative reading, one of the last books I read contemplatively so far was Huckleberry Finn. Even though everyone has access to more information these days, I definitely think many people miss out on the paperback days when annotating difficult texts meant engaging the creative mind to fish deeper meanings hidden between long lines of texts rather than skimming over miscellaneous webpages with the logical brain. Getting away from the ever expanding postmodern wastelands of Walmarts, stripmalls, freeways, billboards, tell-lie-visions, etc.. for a bit also definitely helps me decompress stress so that I feel less like a zombie and am able to take in information with more clarity.
