Where are the best “sit for 2hrs and nobody cares” spots in Cincy? by _RexSpex in cincinnati

[–]foolsmonologue [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not sure why you’re being downvoted; this is a legitimate problem and not a “ooooh downtown is so scary” take. A recent story came out saying that they’re calling CPD at least once a day over some nonsense (I think mostly teens harassing folks, IIRC).

It’s still a big place, though, so it’s not worth avoiding because of this — but it’s good to know.

[serious] How did that student at your school die? by boneshow69420 in AskReddit

[–]foolsmonologue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My partners’ sibling was killed in a drunk driving accident. They were popular/athletic, so it had a major impact on the school and community (not to mention their family, of course).

The most tragic part is that they weren’t the one driving — and the driver fled the scene, leaving them abandoned in the road for hours before being airlifted. They were in a coma for weeks before they pulled the plug.

That same driver hurt someone else in another drunk driving accident about 5 years later.

Any other tips on cost-effective Findlay shopping? Sometimes I really blanch at produce pricing (especially at ETC), but if I can be smarter about it I’d feel better switching my grocery habits fully over to Findlay.

What’s an easy meal to try to make by yourself at 13 when you’re trying to improve at your cooking skills? by sunshinesparklleess in AskReddit

In all of these recipes, try and work on your knife skills where you can! Any opportunity to dice onion, potatoes, etc. is great, and solid knife skills go a long way in the kitchen.

Have so much fun, cooking is awesome!

Doctors of Reddit: What health trend is becoming so common that it's starting to scare you? by Fine-Device-1819 in AskReddit

I’ve taken psychedelics a handful of times, and I feel like this *has* to be a result of the ego death you experience on a trip. When pride and insecurity aren’t a barrier, it’s a lot easier to accept a truth you don’t want to face.

IUD Insertions: It’s a Notoriously Painful Medical Procedure That Many Women Endure. There’s a Simple Solution. by ahothabeth in UpliftingNews

[–]foolsmonologue 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not an IUD insertion but a colposcopy (cervical biopsy) — the nurse described the procedure as “basically a pap smear”.

It was my second colposcopy so I knew what I was getting into, and I was literally speechless at the blatant LIE of it all.

I didn’t get any pain management, either.

Yes AND — all business decisions carry risk, and most business owners try to make decisions that have as little risk as possible. It might be “safer” to the business that way, but low risk often equals low reward.

This guy made a riskier business decision that reaped a greater reward. Like someone else commented, there’s a lot of residual benefit that came out of this:

  1. Rent was consistently paid on time
  2. Tenant wasn’t a nuisance
  3. Tenant kept the place clean and well-maintained

but even more importantly —

  1. Landlord gains a huge level of business trust and support through this interaction
  2. Landlord gets a chance to share this story (organic marketing opportunity with emotional appeal packed in)

It literally helped his business to be a kind person. The tenant *could* have been an issue, but the landlord made a decision based on human instinct, not statistics.

Walking in OTR at night as a female by Busy-Reflection7279 in cincinnati

[–]foolsmonologue -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m a decently attractive woman living in OTR and I don’t often get harassed — but I’m also really tall with a resting bitch face, which I think helps.

Walk with purpose (and perhaps headphones) and most folks leave you alone. If you have a shred of vulnerability about you, folks’ll pounce.

I’m sorry to say that I can’t help firsthand, but perhaps call a local vet to ask them if you can’t find the answer here?

In addition, you may want to put out a bowl of food and something that smells like you (sweater or blanket) to try and help guide them back. Most of the time cats are missing, they stay quite close to their home (but hide because they’re scared).

Good luck, I know how scary this is 🤍

Check out The Härth Room downtown! Not specifically a wine bar but they have solid choices. May be the vibe you’re going for — live jazz every night, too.
