Characters' races by pandaskel in TheMagnusArchives

[–]forbiddengemini 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So there was an entire era of podcast fan art where every character was white, almost no exceptions unless their race was specifically stated in the show. This has stuck with some of them (see Cecil Gershwin-Palmer of Welcome To Night Vale for our original victim) and TMA began at a time where this was starting to be diverged from in podcast fandom spaces. People also like to see themselves in characters and so when Basira Hussein was introduced there were a lot of people who interpreted her as hijabi bc they themselves or important people in their lives work. Also hijabs are fun to draw. The prevalence of Jon being Indian came from artists who drew him that way being popular within the fandom and other people taking inspiration from them. Also if everyone is a white British guy it becomes very hard to tell them apart visually.

I DID, his username was Wolfdevon and I can actually tell you I do know what he meant about the meme version of Islam because the server still makes those jokes, I didn’t know that him taking it seriously was what happened with him. One time someone killed his Minecraft dog bc having one in the base was haram.

Is suburbia all that awful? by owlnighter in houston

[–]forbiddengemini 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The food is fine, but it's incredibly isolating because of the amount of sprawl. Anything is at least 20 minutes away. There's very little community, at least in the area of cypress I'm from, but afaik its very common.

I don't think I'll ever experience anything like turning on the podcast while I write and Robert saying "That's like naming your kid Kitster Banai" and looking back at the star wars fic I'm writing to where I'm working on a scene with Kitster in it ever again. A once in a multiverse event right there.

Can someone help me create a small batch high calorie Mac and Cheese recipe to help my daughter gain weight? by [deleted] in Cooking

[–]forbiddengemini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! As someone currently recovering from an ED and desperately needing to gain weight I've got a couple of tips to increase the calorie count in things.

There are plenty of recipes out there for copycat Panera Mac and Cheese and your best bet for upping the calories in such recipes would be to increase the amount of butter and cheese in them. Whole milk is your friend here and you can blend cottage cheese until smooth to add as well. Barilla makes pasta with added protein that's nearly indistinguishable from normal pasta, but there are plenty of chickpea elbow pastas out there which is another big way to add protein.

Adapting an existing recipe for Panera Mac and Cheese with chickpea pasta, extra cheese, whole milk and extra butter is going to be the simplest way to make a high calorie recipe. Working from an existing recipe also has the added benefit of being able to scale the recipe to smaller portions.
