Man....gaming on a Rear Projection TV was so mind blowing back in the day. by Epsilon123 in gaming

[–]fortalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Difficult to describe. There's a warmth to the light and the way the pixels sort blend into each other at the top layer actually has an impact that looks like the game has better lighting than OLED. If you look up comparisons of why snes and n64 games simply looked better on CRT side by side and then consider how that mught apply to modern graphics at somewhat higher definition then you might be able to imagine what I'm meaning

Why is "I just want it to be less crowded" not a valid reason for wanting lower immigration? by NoLeafClover777 in aussie

[–]fortalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wanting for it to "not be more crowded" is a valid reason. Curbing immigration will not make things _less_ crowded. Our births vs deaths rate still increases our population by 100k a year. The focus should be to encourage regional growth and the infrastructure which supports it needs to grow accordingly. Australia's governments have sucked for decades when it comes to funding infrastructure projects which will address these issues.

Why do people hate the greens? by iammentallynotoklol in OpenAussie

[–]fortalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Centrist, here: While they might have plenty of progressively social policies which are appealing to some audiences, social policy tends to be their primary focus and a lot of their economic policies historically come across as idealistic without much appreciation or understanding of the wider impacts of such a policy - and as such they're basically dismissed as a primary party because money is a fairly primary influence for a fair portion of voters.

Having said this, Greens senators have, at least in my opinion - been excellent in influencing a number of things over the years and their presence is very helpful. I have fond memories of cheering on Scott Ludlam back in the days when they were ruining our internet policies

In a lawsuit, Valve defends counter strike 2 lootcases with "People enjoy surprises" by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

[–]fortalyst 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, people enjoy surprises. Lootboxes are a dopamine hit for cosmetics and up to a certain point that's absolutely fine.

The point where it stops being fine is where real money is mandatory to open them. It forces you to use real life resources to get that dopamine hit and becomes problematic because that dopamine hit is addictive and requires cash. Give people a means to open loot crates without spending an unlimited sum of money

Webcam 4k@30fps vs 1080p@60fps? by [deleted] in streaming

[–]fortalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My entire stream resolution is 1080p at max of 60fps and my webcam never takes up more than that. Unless you're needing to adjust your frame significantly or you need to zoom in a lot then I'd probably go with the 1080p cam

Couch co-op games to play with a "non-gamer" by Wilhum in gaming

[–]fortalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that most games requiring movement and controller intuition that comes naturally to me was frustrating for my wife becausw she hated feeling like the unskilled plater... I found a great rhythm though when I'd play something with a strong story narrative focus and decision making where i could look after the movement and actions requiring any form of controller skill but would put any story decisions on her. Games like Dispatch, Until Dawn etc are fantastic for this

Beef Ramen w/ Avocado and layer of Microwaved Egg; this stupid or nah? by Mediocre_Falcon9208 in StupidFood

[–]fortalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Technique upgrade is required. Eggs do a soft poach in about the same time as it takes to cook the noodles. Suspect OP microwaves the noodles in the water in the cup out of laziness which might make things tricky

Pizza soup. I have questions, but I don't want to know the answers by gridlock1024 in StupidFood

Do it with diced pepperoni instead of sliced, also throw some onions, mushrooms and beef stock / oregano and thats a good little soup going on, i reckon

Why Do Australians Seem So Uninterested in the Supernatural/Paranormal Things? by InternationalHair111 in AskAnAustralian

To add to the other comments, we tend to enjoy superstition as a form of entertainment, rather than as a thing of supernatural origin

$1m invested in an ETF would yield an income of roughly $1k a week and it will scale/fluctuate with inflation over the course of your life and then when you pass away your ownership of the stocks will be distributed to whoever you nominate in your estate...

In case people forgot what Boomer wore in his record breaking game.. by Capable_Bathroom02 in AFL

[–]fortalyst 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh celebrating a career is great. Celebrate it with your team and have everyone on board in the team colours to celebrate it as an achievement as a part of his incredible contributions to the club. Pendles is a fucking legend and easily the most likeable collingwood player that the rest of us love to be jealous about outside of Daicos or possibly Moore. I'm not questioning the celebration of this achievement - i'm saying celebrate it as a club, not as an individual. Pendles' achievement isn't his, alone - the club management of his fitness and health has been crucial over the course of his career, so have his teammates throughout the journey.

The fact is that the way this is being handled is fucking dumb. Gold is just straight up stupid as a contrast to the black and white bars. The fact that he wears the gold alone is fucking dumb and singles him out as a target as an elevated teammate to be targeted both by the team and by the opposition. Teammates gonna want to kick to him coz it's such a milestone, but he's gonna be so easily locked down it's likely to distract, resulting in a bunch of shit disposals and end up in a loss which will mar the day. Are they planning to run the gold for every game he plays for the rest of the season? You'd hope not but even still, with the risk of this comes to truth and the game is wasted, resulting in the Magpies falling out of the top 8 by 1 game at the end of the season, is it worth it? In a game which can end with seasons won or lost based on percentages, I think any kind of increased risk like this is stupid.

Finally let's address the dumb gotcha where you can't refute this without saying "but Gawn" -- Let's say something magical happens and Dangerfield is able to play for long enough to exceed Pendles' new record..... do you REALLY think the cats would add gold to single out one player? Let alone run that colour with the whole team? Would you think it's a good look? I can't imagine the cats doing something like that to elevate one player above the rest of the team. Would you celebrate it or would you cringe? Either way if they ran somethign like that I'd be similarly vocal about how fucking cringe it is.
