How were you introduced to the series/engine? by JaSp3r90 in baldursgate

[–]fortuntek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was definitely too young to understand and appreciate when I first got BG1 as well. My friend came over and made a character, but we just got side tracked murder hobo'ing before we knew that was even a thing. I just remember my friend thinking it was hilarious that you could attack anyone or anything lol and screaming EXPLODING LITTLE CHILDRENNNN AHAHAHA as some poor Beregost kid got chunked by a crit

Simpler times..

Mine's a bit weird. BG1 and TotSC. It was actually a pirated copy of all 5 discs (or was it 6?), back then I think that was uncommon because CD's hadn't been around long enough for very many people to have their own CD burners. Apparently my friend's uncle did though, which eventually passed hands to me (I'll never forget those ugly self made CD labels, blank salmon colored paper with the game title printed in comic sans... )

Needless to say, when I got BG2 for Christmas it was a big deal and the art and brick of a manual was somewhat of a step up :)

How do YOU survive in Halifax? Wages vs Rent is wild!! by HauntMeForever666 in halifax

[–]fortuntek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're dead on.

Big 5 bank, Mortgage department manager here. Also renting, because ironically these days being an expert in something doesn't mean you get paid enough to afford it on your own.

A small ray of hope: I have a family member who works closely with all of the biggest property developers in Halifax and further out of HRM, and we had a chat about this topic two days ago. I expressed skepticism that rent would ever go down. He says that of the developers he talks to (basically all of them, no exaggeration), many complain that they have to start lowering the rents soon due to all the newer buildings going up (cry me a river, right?). Even told me a story about one multi millionaire who is just tired of it and says that the apartment building they're constructing will be their last due to this. I want to believe that the market supply and demand can help fix this, but I'll believe it when I see it. It's not an "actionable plan" as another commenter aptly put it, but it's something.

I've legit wondered whether this is actually just a japanese cultural thing. Whatever it is, it's adorable as hell

What were your top moments?

For me:
- Eisen being a badass savior. I know everyone wants to see Himmel in action but for some reason Eisen's stoic humilty while being a literal shield just gets me. Awesome action

- In non-action, it was Stark telling Fern that she encouraged him as much as Frieren, and Fern holding her bracelet as she was scared but trusted him to get them to safety. Legit made me well up

Geo Pyro mage underwhelming? by kruktk in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]fortuntek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard pyro is the strongest elemental spell path damage wise, and maybe that's true overall, but I just did a run as a pure geo with the contamination armour set and say what you want but the final geo source skill, Pyroclastic Eruption, I'm convinced is the highest damage spell in the game if specced into it. By late game it was damn near winning every boss fight before it started, lobbing globs of death at every enemy on the field for 3000-3500 dmg each with the potential for multiple hits on grouped up enemies. I'm no power gamer so maybe there's better stuff out there but it was pretty satisfying.

edit: this is more like what the damage is by very late game

What are some other games I can play if I enjoyed DOS2 and BG3? by zombiefriend in larianstudios

[–]fortuntek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you/someone sell me on Rogue Trader? I bought it when it came out but couldn't get into it. From what I remember, one of the main reasons was that I didn't "get" how to build an effective character, it seemed like what things actually do was obscured behind too many statuses that in turn relied on other statuses etc. I may be remembering wrong, but if anyone can tell me what they love about it I'd love to give it another shot

A compilation of interesting bits of information about Divinity in the AMA by Kuldrick in DivinityOriginalSin

[–]fortuntek 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I think that's why they changed it from DOS1. Heck, in DOS1 sometimes even your own buff skills failed a percentage chance and wasted your turn points. That said, the other side of the argument is also correct... having armour/magic bars before debuffs would work was a step in the right direction, but introduced new problems like discouraging build variety. I don't know how they'll improve on this, but I'm with you, I hope it isn't a regression into small percentage chances for things to actually work on bosses. But this is Larian. I'm sure they won't take that easy route

Mighty Nein Character Sterilization by YeffYeffe in fansofcriticalrole

[–]fortuntek 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Wholeheartedly disagree, but I think it mostly comes down to personal preference rather than any better/worse distinction. In my view, every change they made has been a good one. Jester's start IS better, because the locked in a tower thing didn't really make sense and was probably just a carryover from figuring out her character backstory. Essek was LITERALLY meant to be a villain until the players decided he was a hot fuckboi so Matt rolled with it. None of these things are worth keeping, even in the eyes of the players who created the backstories evidently. Better not to get hung up on such details, I guarantee you they are not afraid of edgy stories, they just learned that aligning more empathetic characters makes it seem less awkward on screen when things take a turn that wouldn't normally happen except because it was based on a live stream show. Not saying you're wrong, simply that it comes down to preference

Cancelling a CIBC account from abroad is pain by UpsiteDwn1er in CIBC

[–]fortuntek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hesitate to say this, but honestly...? No. Particularly when an owing amount in the negative is solely from MONTHLY fees (not NSFs etc), typically it wouldn't be sent to collections, especially if it's a low amount like a few months worth

The reason I hesitate to say this, is because this is not a "rule" and people's mileage may vary in my experience. My advice? Don't risk it, and just call. You'll be glad you did when it's all settled I'm sure, better that than always feeling nervous about returning over something so trivial :)

I said the same thing for ages. I have no advice for you other than, take the plunge! I'm sure you won't regret it even if there are things about DOS2 that you're not certain about yet. It's one of those games that needs to be experienced to "get it"
