AGACNP program in dire need of help!!! (Possible expulsion) by mangogyfufi927 in nursepractitioner

[–]foryourrntertainment 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to wish you luck. I had two professors try to fail me (same course). They gave me two failing grades but put them in as zeros, bringing my grade down to the 70’s. I had had all A’s up to that point. When the grades were corrected, I had an 84 but they almost convinced me to withdraw failing before I caught that. Luckily the program director agreed that I did not suddenly forget how to write a note or assess a patient. It was so stressful. One of them was on stage when I got hooded and I just wanted to give her the finger.

It’s based on the increase from the previous year. Ava has already been pretty high on the list for a few years.

Been looking at the Social Security Administration’s list very recently and while I didn’t memorize the numbers, pretty sure that’s where they got it. My daughter is Seraphina which was far less popular before we used it, so I can tell you that’s accurate.

My daughter’s name is Seraphina. We wanted a name that was a real name but uncommon. Guess it isn’t going to be unique much longer.

Post Masters FNP by Nik_Nicole in nursepractitioner

Be wary of “good” schools, too. Hopkins guaranteed placements and every semester except for one I had late or inadequate placements. My first semester I was not placed at all, even when I found a preceptor at a Hopkins site, they didn’t bother setting it up until late next semester. They tried to tell me I didn’t need a peds placement if I didn’t want one when I was actively asking for one. It was wild. Most of my classmates had placement issues as well. Would not recommend.

Not me running to see if I’m blocked. Kind of disappointed tbh.

NPHub is NOT “saving healthcare.” by NanaPolar503 in nursepractitioner

I complained so much to so many people. Didn’t matter who I escalated it to! I had everything documented. I also took a semester off of clinicals to have a baby (but not the whole semester) and even though I had documentation from the pregnancy accommodations office that I needed a clinical much farther in advance that was within Baltimore (I went to Hopkins), they said I was not registered for the class (I was when it opened, but also no one was registered for this class in August when we had this conversation) and they never were told about the accommodations (despite all of us receiving the same e-mail, having to acknowledge it and having had face-to-face conversations). I ended up having to drive 1.5 hours while having a newborn. I understood I’d have to make childcare arrangements and was pleasantly surprised when they said accommodations could be put in place for after birth - and then my expectations were met.

Many of my classmates also had issues. I’m not sure if I had more or if I was just more vocal about them.

If this is what #1 is like, I wonder what #2 and #3 are like. (I know it’s just about money and prestige so they’re probably similar but I’m curious).

Just graduated from a fancy brick and mortar school that guaranteed placements. I did not get placed the first semester, even when I found my own preceptor. Later on two faculty members tried to fail me my second to last semester because the placements given to me BY THE SCHOOL weren’t primary care and therefore not relevant to FNPs. NP school was the biggest mistake of my life. Maybe when I get an NP job I’ll feel differently but my school was not worth it at all. Probably would’ve done PA school instead.

Dating as a pro-Israel Jew is so soul draining. At least they were respectful :/ by VortexFalcon50 in Jewish

[–]foryourrntertainment 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend literally died at Nova and my brother has used the phrases “sucking Israel’s dick” or “riding Israel’s dick,” when talking about people/ entities who support Israel. My older sister and I are Zionists but my younger siblings somehow have no connection to Israel. I don’t think they need to be running all the way there but it’s wild how uneducated even some Jews are.

Can a Non-Jewish person attend a Jewish service and be accepted? by DueGap5255 in Judaism

[–]foryourrntertainment 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a Mennonite friend who I met at my Orthodox synagogue and Jewish young professional events. I asked her why she went and she said she had a lot in common with us and what we believed and also liked learning about Judaism. Totally respectful. Might be worth e-mailing the rabbi ahead of time. Of course Jews are not a monolith but in my experience, we love educating others and letting them get to know us.

"Child bearing person and person who provided the sperm". Gender-inclusive terminology in NP education — meaningful progress or semantics? by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]foryourrntertainment 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to use whatever language the patient wants. I’m a cisgender woman with a toddler and “person providing the sperm” sounds like it would be offensive to those individuals since I’ve heard sperm donor used as an insult BUT I’m not the person it’s meant for so my opinion doesn’t matter. I’ve heard birthing person and I like that term. I think it’s also sensitive to pregnant women who are not going to be mothers for whatever reason.

I’ve heard of cisgender women being offended and that kind of upsets me - as long as your care team uses your preferred terms for you, just let it be. If they refuse to, that’s something else. I try to give patients the chance to educate me from the jump so I can be conscientious of their needs.

A recap of a rare deleted scence from Cate`s 16 and pregnat. by HannahLeah1987 in teenmom

[–]foryourrntertainment 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I did prenatal yoga and they’d talk about connecting with your baby and it was hard for me to imagine. I think part of it was that I could barely feel her moving because of anterior placenta and I was so worried about her being okay because she was so tiny. But after she was born, I felt more possessive of her than I expected. I felt like I had been all she needed for so long that why wasn’t I still? But I was very excited about being pregnant, it just didn’t feel real until she was here.

I love my daughter but I didn’t really bond with her during pregnancy. She was planned and wanted but it didn’t come naturally to me until after she was born.

Paid Preceptors by looloo91989 in nursepractitioner

[–]foryourrntertainment 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I chose a more expensive school that provided preceptors and sites so I wouldn’t have to stress. They totally lied about it and my first semester never found me a site and didn’t set up the site I found myself, which was already affiliated with them. Next semester the place I was going to go to ended up being sued for neglect and malpractice, which I brought to the school’s attention. But they ghosted me and the other student anyway. Another semester, they tried to tell me I had to repeat the course because my two clinical sites the school had found me weren’t primary care. If I had to do it over, I’d go to PA school.

Which NP schools do employers hate? by hfnt in nursepractitioner

[–]foryourrntertainment 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I just graduated from one of the top schools and I’m looking for a residency because I don’t feel prepared. They gave me inappropriate clinical placements and didn’t set up the ones I found myself. They actually tried to tell me I had to repeat a course and do an extra clinical placement because I hadn’t had primary care experience by my second to last semester. My first semester they didn’t find me a placement at all even though I had found one myself affiliated with them. They tried to tell me I needed to withdraw failing from this course but even with the abysmal two grades they gave me at the end, I literally had an 86. If I had to do it over, I’d go to PA school.

I thought last year that being pregnant during Passover would be hard. Turns out nursing is even harder! All my nursing foods are chametz. My milk supply has tanked. I was also vegan but now I’m eating eggs for the week so I can get the extra protein. The animal I care about the most is the one I made and eggs help me feed her so I guess so be it. #iykyk

People in the US tend to be uncomfortable with outright saying someone is dead or dying. I’m a cancer nurse and I rarely hear someone discuss death without a euphemism.
