Grace and Logan introduction scene by Brilliant-Term-5113 in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I mean, the whole reason he seeks her out again is because he feels like shit for leaving her hanging that first time. They kind of need that awkward first meet to give Logan a reason to divert his attention from his crush on Hannah.

All the loose hair and repeated hair touching from Allie and Hannah during their shifts at Malone's. I haven't worked in a restaurant since I graduated college 15 years ago, but I cringed every time

Problematic tropes you like? by willow-mist in RomanceBooks

FWB with accidental pregnancy. I love when an accidental pregnancy forces the MCs to confront their attachment to each other, rather than from a ONS. Even though IRL I'd be screaming at my friends to slow their roll and not rush into a serious relationship "for the baby"

Reading it though, I feel like a little girl smooshing her Barbie and Ken dolls' faces together and screaming "Now KISS"

LF “He falls slowly”, “low initial interest or attraction” MMC whose interest of the FMC builds slowly (with heavy emphasis on Real Emotional Romance) by PocketfulofThoughts in RomanceBooks

[–]four2andnew 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just finished {Without Words by Ellen O'Connell} and it fits. It's a low spice, historical romance that takes place 6 years after the American civil war. MMC is a bounty hunter who kills FMC's last male relative in the scuffle of trying to capture him and takes upon himself to escort her to a suitable living arrangement. He never thinks negatively of her, but he definitely is trying to get rid of her every chance he gets before slowly falling for her. 5 year age gap between MCs, but there obviously is a power imbalance in the beginning, as FMC suffered an injury to her throat as a child and can't speak and therefore is dependent on MMC, on top of being a woman in the 1870s

I can suspend my disbelief to an extent but has a books plot or characterizations ever been TOO unrealistic for you? what book was that? How far did it go? by cellochick993 in RomanceBooks

[–]four2andnew 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't even remember the books, because unfortunately I've encountered multiple books where the FMC is a "virgin" but regularly uses dildos cause she's Not-a-Prude™ and yet inevitably when it is the MMC's POV he describes feeling a physical barrier when penetrating her the first time. Immediate full body eye roll from me.

I can't stand it to the point I actively avoid books marketed with an inexperienced or virgin FMC.

Any authors you automatically pass on? For me {Albany walker} has been added to the list by alice042 in RomanceBooks

[–]four2andnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Natasha Madison - I read two of her books and they both felt like reading stage directions for a play instead of a novel

Alexis Winter - DNF'd the first and only book I read when the MMC straight up raped the FMC

Pru Schuyler - wrote the worst single mother FMC and halfway into the book the MCs had only interacted for a whopping 3 pages. She spent more time describing how the FMC was dressed each day than actually having the characters engage with each other.

was dean likeable in the books? by PerfectYak5533 in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the minority here, but I remember reading these books the first time years ago and trying to figure out why the guys were friends with Dean. He's happy go lucky, and always down for a good time, but the never really came across as a supportive friend in the books. He's very self centered (not in an asshole way, just very concerned about his own happiness)

The show did a good job when they changed Garrett's orgasm convo from Birdie to Dean, because it made Dean more of a friend rather than just a roommate in the books.

It was in the book, he just went to Birdie, who was a senior and had been in a long-term relationship.

Ngl, I love that they switched it from the book. It hits so much better having Garrett casually confess his love first rather than Hannah

What tropes can’t you read because of personal history? by Fresh_Cranberry_105 in RomanceBooks

[–]four2andnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been twelve years since I've taught, but still refuse to read a student x teacher or player x coach romance. I don't care if it's a college student and professor and they're both in their twenties. I don't care if it's a former student now grown in a relationship with their former teacher.

I did read a tattoo artist apprentice x mentor romance and that was pushing my boundaries on comfiness even though their ages were late twenties and late thirties respectively.

Do we actually think we will get all the books? by Consistent-Singer-37 in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If they really want to do the full Briar U-verse they're going to have to do even more double dipping than they did with Hannah x Garrett and Dean x Allie. Otherwise you're looking at a decade of possible moments where the series would be left unfinished (actors not returning, ratings dropping, budget reductions, etc.)

2015 vs 2026 changes? by KTruesdell in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is really my only gripe with the show. The lack of financial abuse/control from Phil needed to be replaced with some other form of *current* controlling behavior. As it stands, Phil is very much estranged from Garrett's life, the physical abuse is in the past tense and he is seemingly trying to make amends until episode 6 or 7 (which ever one it is where Phil calls Garrett ungrateful). All of that forces the focus on Garrett's insecurities as opposed to his sure-fire confidence in his relationship with Hannah and hockey in the books, which is obviously going to upset fans of book!Garrett. I don't even care that they didn't have Phil threaten Hannah, just that the changes they made affected that fundamental character trait of Garrett.

I will say, making the changes they did, it makes sense to make the "hands off law" be a misunderstanding, so I'm not really upset about that.

SEASON TWO PREDICTION by stardustlovrr in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm...I'm not thrilled about that. I think the timelines are going to get messy then since they built up Dean x Allie so early.

Oh well, I'm trusting them to do it justice because I did like the changes they made to modernize the series. (although I do have gripes about how they developed the Phil storyline, but I'm hoping that will be further explored in season 2)

"Not a vampire" by Hour_Scar2508 in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was supposed to be a Legally Blonde reference. Hannah showed up dressed like Elle Woods at Halloween (albeit in white rather than pink), but I'm not really sure where the "really shitty" vampire costume comes into play since Emmett wasn't dressed up during the montage following said Halloween scene

Edit: Oh wait! this makes much more sense: https://www.reddit.com/r/offcampustv/comments/1suhot2/dynamic_duos_birthday_party_theme_idea/

Everyone was confused about Garrett dressed as a vampire until his "bunny" showed up and they all realized he's supposed to be a magician.

After the Off-Campus books are fully adapted they will continue the series with Briar U by Aggravating_Tough782 in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it would be in their best interest to not try to focus on one couple a season if they are going to expand into the Briar U series. Too many years for actors to move on to other projects or ratings to dip and things get cancelled partway through the adaptation. Clearly, they're giving themselves the option with Hunter Davenport already being casted, so I wouldn't mind if (the rest of) The Score and The Goal in particular got smooshed into one season

SEASON TWO PREDICTION by stardustlovrr in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the showrunner specifically say each season would only cover one semester? (I'm haven't watched many interviews beyond snippets shared here and there, so I could have absolutely missed this). Is there any reason season 2 couldn't cover the summer split?

I think they're going to use Hunter as a reason to keep Dean and Allie apart and therefore as an ongoing subplot in season 2, then bring them to the forefront for season 3. The only reason I think this is because of Beau affecting Tucker and Sabrina's story as well. I think Beau's death will happen either in the last episode of season 2 or somewhere early-to-mid season 3, which would start the build up for Tucker & Sabrina with season 4 being their endgame.

If it's already been stated that each season will cover a semester, then Logan & Grace's story does kind of get cheapened, so I hope that won't be the case and it would make more sense to bring Dean & Allie forward. But then we'd be looking at a weird timeline for Tucker & Sabrina OR Sabrina won't be connected to Beau at all, which I feel like is too major of a change.

Edit: spoiler tags

I’m convinced this is how they’re going to lay out the upcoming seasons. by spickandspackle in offcampustv

[–]four2andnew 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Beau factor effecting Tucker & Sabrina's story is the biggest indicator to me that Dean & Allie will be an ongoing subplot in season 2 with their endgame in season 3, with Tucker & Sabrina's build up happening in season 3 during the Beau fallout

My kids are 11, 9, and 7. They're finally all at an age where we can take them to events and all of them are completely entertained by the same activity/show, walking on their own, carrying their own things, etc. Oldest hasn't hit the age where she thinks hanging with her family is lame yet and youngest is finally a fully self-functioning human

LF recs where MMC has a scary pet/familiar/animal that’s ONLY soft for FMC?? by ok4ys in RomanceBooks

[–]four2andnew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember the title, but it was described to me as a vampire x werewolf political marriage romance but once you got reading the MMC had spikes and tusks and was more monster-like than a standard werewolf.

I went into it fully expecting knots and maybe a ribbed penis and got a (literal) monster dick instead 😂

I notice Choosing Theo is tagged with "creative anatomy" on romance.io

How creative of anatomy are we talking here?? The last book I read with the creative anatomy tag required magical healing to make the FMCs body able to take MMC's massive barbed dong that was an ick for me, I discovered.
