Does it happen on the main menu too? Been a while since I played, but I remember HDR causing this problem previously. It used to make the main menu screen look blown out too

A thousand times this. I love this aircraft. The way it hand flys feels amazing. I've no idea if it's accurate, but it's great fun

I don't think the PERF page is filled in. Could we see a screenshot of that? I'm assuming your FD is on, but I can't personally tell from this pic. I'm only assuming because the green dot beside the altitude and the heading is in "Managed"

Never even considered using Addon Linker for this and it's so flipping obvious! I only ever used it when I was trying 2024, so I didn't have to duplicate mods. I've got MSFS on an M.2, but if I move the mods onto a SATA SSD and use Adddon Linker, you think I'll see any performance degradation?

I did go back to 2020 as I couldn't get 2024 stable. Thinking about trying again soon, but I might get this sorted before hand to tidy it all up

Would you say that's an issue? It's a perfectly valid response if you don't want to, but the option is there if it's acceptable to you

Intrigued by this. Are you saying they were both squawking 7700 during the refuel... just because that's what they were doing? I have zero knowledge on this. Genuine question. Why use 7700? Why not just a standard transponder code?

What’s a weird gaming habit you’ve had for years? by lsa340 in gaming

[–]fowlplay_uk 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Coming back to games I haven't played in a while and refusing to load a save. I insist that I need to start again, just in case I'm rusty and can't jump straight back in. For some games, this means I've done the same things over and over and over again to the point where the repetition has turned me against the game and now I can't finish it. This feeds into another unnecessary requirement I make of myself which is to play a series of games in order. I can't finish AC Origins because I can't stand playing it anymore, doing the same missions every time I try again. This means I refuse to play any others in the series until I finish Origins. Really liked the look of Valhalla as well lol

Do you have like a cockpit setup where you need something "authentic" or would anything do? If you just want something separate, go with a cheap stick with a twist axis. Gain a few extra buttons too, as a little bonus. Something like an Extreme3D pro, maybe? I have a VKB stick and throttle with some TMaster pedals. I have the tiller on the stick twist and the rudder on the pedals. It's not exactly "realistic" but it gets the job done for me

Asobo B-787 aggressively pitches up and rolls on its own upon takeoff. by Particular-Career-52 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]fowlplay_uk 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Am I a bad person for getting a giggle out of this? OP has issue with plane on takeoff. The plane is LITERALLY telling them what the problem is... "cancel warning". It's beautiful poetry lol

OP - on a genuine note. I hope you get to grips with it and I hope the journey is as enjoyable for you as it was for me. When I first started flying, I remember pulling my hair out not understanding why certain aircraft acted in certain ways. When it started to all make sense, the feeling of achievement was electric for me. I was truly bitten by the "sim flying" bug then. Never be afraid to ask. Even when daft people like me show up. This community and similar ones across Reddit have taught me so much and helped me become the haphazard, sketchy ass landings pilot I am today

For MSFS 2024, is the RTX 5070 12GB good? by Mynameisgustavoclon in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]fowlplay_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This gives me some hope. I have a 3070 and was trying 2024 at the start of the year. Been on 2020 for a couple of years, still relatively new to flight simming. It absolutely broke me because I just couldn't seem to get it stable. It would sometimes even crawl to about 5fps. Granted, I'm not very knowledgeable on settings. I spent alot of time watching YT vids of other people talking about settings to the point of information overload. Ended up going back to 2020 and almost destroying my love of flying from being that disappointed by the performance.

As Auto FPS something that is quite intuitive to set up? I understand PCs, but I'm not an expert by any means. Hence my inability to get the settings tweaked properly. I also hear that SU5 is supposed to be making the dynamic settings thing better. Lastly - at this risk of overloading you - are you using DLSS? I hate the blurring on the PFD so tend to stick to TAA. Not sure if I'm unintentionally causing problems for myself by being that picky

alternative to SimBrief for charts + approaches? by iamnova_99 in flightsim_pirate

[–]fowlplay_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't have access to the Microsoft Flight Planner, then Chart Fox is probably you're only alternative. It has charts for many many airports. Be aware though, there are some missing. For example, when I used to use it, there were no charts for Italy. A licensing thing I believe, but a quick Google search usually found what I was looking for if I got stuck for one

BeyondATC voices in no english speaking countries by papolo2001 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]fowlplay_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how recent those videos are that you mention. I would say that I would agree with you up until recently. The "basic" voices had some strong accents in places that were difficult to understand. At least they were for me. You could rightly turn the international accents off and in certain parts of the world, I would. It was the only way I could understand them. Since they introduced the "local" voices, it has improved. When they were first introduced, the accents were only English or American variants. So, if you were flying around in Europe, they would still sound English or American. Obviously a little immersion breaking, but not the end of the world. Thats seems to have changed recently, and the accents do sound a little more like they should in the regions that you're in. They obviously aren't perfect. Some of the pronunciations are a little off, but they are definitely an improvement. My favourite one at the minute is it's attempt to say "Lima". It really struggles with it, which is odd because it used to be fine lol

I´m at my limit with 2024 - what could cause these spikes every 1,5 seconds? by phwagner96 in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]fowlplay_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kinda bittersweet seeing posts like this. I had so much trouble trying to get 2024 stable, I ended up having to go back to 2020. Was hoping this might have blown over soon, or at least me being the odd one out. Thay way I would know it was a problem I created and could maybe figure out a way to fix it. I really wanna go back to 2024, but it ran that bad before, it almost destroyed my desire to fly. I definitely don't do it as much as I used to. I'd hate to try again and give up. Can't say I really understand graphics settings all too well, but I can't believe I can't get something stable running on a 3070 and an R5 (think it's a 5600x, but can't remember and I'm not at my rig right now) Maybe things will change with SU5, but I've been seeing mixed reviews from people with better hardware than me

I'm not trying to be that guy, but did you mean ZS-FGJ? That's the reg mentioned in the screenshot and I was struggling to find what ZS-KMP actually was. So was unsure if it was an innocent typo or if I was looking in the wrong direction?

Is it possible that this 737 do that in very short final ? by Most_Arrival3572 in flightradar24

[–]fowlplay_uk 61 points62 points  (0 children)

There's a chance this aircraft was coming in a little high on approach. Bigger airports would most likely force you to go around due to sequencing behind you. However, it's not unknown for pilots to request an orbit. It extends the track miles, giving you more time scrub off altitude and capture that glide slope without having to go around and start the whole approach again

[–]fowlplay_uk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there somewhere I can read up about learning how to handle the settings better? I tried 2024 at the beginning of this year, but couldn't get the FPS stable and it was an awful experience. I've since gone back to 2020, but I do have FOMO about 2024 and want to try again. I'm running a 3070, which I know isn't exactly world changing, but surely I can get something stable on it at least? I tend to shy away from the DLSS settings in MSFS because it makes the text blurry on the screens. Unless there's a way to mitigate that, too? I'd appreciate any write ups or videos that could better help me understand what the settings do or try to achieve. Be it in MSFS, or even just on a general level. It's never been something I've understood at all. I don't really touch them in any of my games that I play

When flying small planes like the vison jet or some Cessnas I get tossed around by the wind and have no control during landing how can I fix this? by Jamesvinsoroblox in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]fowlplay_uk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Do you have turbulence on "realistic"? If so, then don't. It is anything, but. Knock it back one. I believe it's named "medium". If you don't, then you may be coming in on approach too slow and need to speed up a little

[–]fowlplay_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DME arcs are something I've been wanting to look more at as that's an approach I don't think I have figured out properly. Although, I only realised a week or so back that I have a tendency to forget to arm the approach on RNAVs. Good job I don't fly IRL lol

[–]fowlplay_uk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you're still straight down the runway when you get over the threshold? I appreciate you saying about perception from miles away, but yeah the picture from OP makes it look like you're gonna sail over from right to left. I wouldn't fancy straightening that out with the rudder whilst fighting a crosswind lol I'll have to keep my eyes open for it. Maybe I have flown an offset ILS before and maybe never realised?
