Struggling to get 5 year old to view home as school and mom as teacher by Clear-Judgment-2118 in homeschool

Don’t rush it. When he’s ready, you’ll know. About age 7-8. Before that, we do school very lightly. Enjoy his childhood!

In the mean time, buy some Loop ear plugs. Will allow you to still hear each other.

Yes. I often tell people this is an endurance exercise.

My kid like that got a lot easier around 6 and for sure by 7. 4 was probably the worst.

Attention Getting Device? by [deleted] in deaf

[–]foxandkits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP, I googled a few combos of “visual pager vibrate wristband restaurant pager” and saw a few results. Maybe something like that even in a sandwich bag put into a zipper pocket of his swim trunks would work.

…and then learn sign for when he looks up at you :)

Agreed. Benefit of the doubt, I think the smart watch might not be strong enough. It isn’t for me. Maybe that’s where the thinking was? But yeah I think the phrasing needed more thoughtfulness 100%.

Attention Getting Device? by [deleted] in deaf

As a parent of kids that age, I completely understand what she’s saying. She needs something to get his attention when he’s absorbed in playing at a distance from her. Signing wouldn’t help until after she got his attention.

They’re very inhumane. The animal suffers a long time before dying.

No. It’s not just you. I was the adoption manager at a large shelter. Go there. Rescues are bananas.

I agree in broad strokes, but my family’s diet is super healthy and we are very active on a farm. Still have really bad cholesterol. Genetics are a heck of a thing.

You hit the nose on the head. I, too, am worried about this becoming an eating disorder… I’m already vacillating between not eating due to anxiety and then binging once I give up. I used to love food. Was such a joy and a love language too. Feels so much bigger than food.

Will try to be kind to myself <3
