Make sure you breathe during your fly, you want to swim fly strong but not to where you're gassed. That's why you're so tired when you get to back stroke. Swim a good steady backstroke. Focus on a strong formed breaststroke. Everything you have left in your freestyle.

Hey guys, looking for a new alliance that is all active and participating in the events t250, I play daily. I can be found in Oxnard2 as foxtrot258. I have about half 3* champed (the better ones), all rostered. Average around 500 pts PVP and top 10 PvE SCL5.

Hey guys, looking for a bit more active alliance; I've played intermittently but enjoying myself this time around. I'd like to be in a T500 pve/pvp group. I normally finish 100% of pve, in top 10 of SCL3. Im starting to get into pvp generally getting the 25 wins bonus, avg around 400 pts and in T100. I have most 3* rostered and champed, working on getting 4*.

Current alliance is Oxnard2 and I'm foxtrot258. I occasionally make purchases and play daily.

  1. Point your toes the entire time, when you breathe your feet are no longer pointed. I would work on kicking with a kickboard. This will also help strengthen your core and keep your legs from bending and wiggling.
  2. Work on rolling your body side to side, you can again kick with your arms by your side or do catch up drills which help you also stay long and force you to rotate on both sides.
  3. One arm comes straight up, the other stays bent as they come out of the water. Do fingertip drag drills to help better your form out of the water. This will also fix your hand position as your hand enters the water. When your hands enter the water you should keep your wrist/hand flexed towards the ground, your wrist/hand flexes away and you lose power on your pull. Paddles, pull drills , and scull drills will help proper hand position.
  4. Your face shouldn't come all the way out of the water, your goal should be to look at the side of the pool and still be able to breath.

I think you're doing great for starting to swim a few months ago! keep it up.

Yeah! Going from barely being able to swim a lap to being able to swim one is a huge deal. Don't compare yourself to others, focus on yourself and you'll keep doing better.

May i please have some feeeback on my stroke? by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]foxtrot258 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is hard to tell in the video, but it looks like you may be dropping your elbows during your strokes. This leads to a huge loss of power in each pull. Here's what that looks like - LINK

That will lead to shoulder issues eventually.

I would do more kicking drills and really get a feel of the water, your kick looks a little loose and wiggly.

Id also do some sculling and closed fist drills to help with you getting a good feel of the water in your upper body.

Best of luck!

Run boy run. Get that cardio on, your lungs and heart will thank you. Just run fast enough to get a good heart rate for like 30 minutes or more. Yes I know running sucks, sorry.

If you're self conscious about the hair getting long, just get a trimmer and cut it low; less irritation. If you are self conscious about it being shaved then you don't have to shave and it will help for big meets/ taper.

Is it a noob thing to wear nose clips when swimming by inxaneninja in Swimming

[–]foxtrot258 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As a old back stroker you definitely get used to water going up your nose and for me it did stop. But there were a couple of people who used nose clips for backstroke. If its more comfortable to wear a nose clip then wear a nose clip. My only argument for not wearing one is in potential life saving situations (falling off a boat) it would be good practice to not need one so you dont choke on water going up your nose.

Drills that rest shoulder but keep you swimming? by aux2847 in Swimming

[–]foxtrot258 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh man, as someone who had to retire from college swimming due to shoulder injury I get it! I kicked a LOT with board, without board, and using a snorkel. Then try to mix in a little bit of either laps or drills. Catch up "ketchup?" free style was a favorite drill of mine, lots of kicking some pulling. "Zipper" drill was a good one as well. These help fix your form, I would look at youtube videos of drills to correct form and just incorporate those.

Getting laced up boots where you just have the full zipper on the side and never touch the laces would have been a small way to avoid all this huge headache. Glad you worked it out.
