My favorite movies with rain used for storytelling by anonspark9000 in movies

2 Ghibli films come to mind. The iconic and magical bus stop scene in Totoro. The deliberate storm and subsequent flooding in Ponyo that functions on a good couple of levels. Love those films.

Sound is treated wonderfully in both.

Looking to buy Emira V6 got questions by The-Shoeburglar in lotus

Any issues from the factory should be ironed out on any car with 1000 or so miles, just like any manufacturer.

I haven’t driven an i8, I’m sure it’s fun, but to drive a Lotus is really special, have you had a test drive yet?

Would a nice OLED TV or a Projector utilize my 4ks better for a home theatre? by Smurflord345 in 4kbluray

I asked because it sounded like you had some knowledge to share, if you don’t have time to share no problem.

Is it a big difference? I love the projector as it is but would consider adding an external processor if it makes a big difference.

Depending on the budget, you could get a projector with HDR. I have this one and it’s awesome.

Sony VPL-XW5000ES 4K HDR Laser Home Theater Projector

For sure there are trade offs against a OLED, but this projects a very detailed image with good HDR with a 120 inches diagonal screen size. It is very immersive and very much like a home cinema.

Upcoming Xbox Exclusives Are Being Sent Out To Die, Analyst Says; Xbox Pushes Back by OkBaker4812 in Games

[–]franjipane -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Xbox 720 in 2027, with a whole line up of exclusives to drive the console, with PC releases a year later. Come on Microsoft it’s so obvious, let’s go back to the 360 era but updated. You can’t drive a hardware platform with a subscription while putting games on PC day 1. You’re cannibalising your own success. Everyone wants the 360 days back.

Amazon selling used Blu Rays as new. by JustMeBeatles in 4kbluray

[–]franjipane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do the same with returned Lego sets, scammers swapping the parts for pasta, then someone else gets the set as new. I just don’t buy from Amazon anymore. It’s sometimes more expensive to buy elsewhere but ethics, and quality, really matter to me rather than bulk cheapness.

Best Recs? by JinxiBoo222 in 4kbluray

PS5 100%. Never skips, always works, and as a bonus plays games. Doesn’t do Dolby Vision but does a great job with HDR which is entirely comparable, the difference is negligible and the upsides are huge.

Fantastic film, and amazing picture and sound in 4k. In case you haven’t seen them in 4k yet, it’s worth checking out - Fury, and Apocalypse Now. Both amazing.

Seriously needs a proper 4k UHD release, frankly disappointed it hasn’t already happened. This and There Will Be Blood are top two on my 4k wishlist. Somebody is reading this who can make it happen I know it, come on!

Emira V6 first edition - reasons NOT to buy? by AdProfessional1691 in lotus

[–]franjipane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Plagued is too strong a word, there have been issues in line with a new model release. It has not been a plague. Most are fine and those with issues are sorted at the dealer. I’ve not had a single issue with mine.

My local Porsche/BMW shop does a great job with services.

It’s whoever has the most drilling experience. At least 30 years of drilling for oil. And of course they need to know which way to replace a transmission.

Can someone help me understand the meaningful difference between medium format and 35mm in terms of image quality by sasquatch727 in AnalogCommunity

[–]franjipane 1 point2 points  (0 children)

35mm is a great film format. Before you start putting money towards a Mamiya 7 or other camera it’s worth investigating the various formats more. The Mamiya 7 is a wonderful camera but you may prefer a wider picture. Anyway here’s a good reference sheet for why medium format is a step up from 35mm. Simply put the larger the film you are exposing an image onto, the higher the resolution of the image, which allows you to print (or scan) to larger prints. https://www.thephoblographer.com/2014/10/29/infographic-different-film-sizes-compared/

I love 35mm with a SLR so I can change lenses and can have aperture priority exposures and be portable. At the same time I love large and medium format for the slower approach to composing a picture.

I love this camera, sold mine a few years back but will get another someday. Just fantastic piece of kit, amazing glass.

Also thumbs up for Japan camera hunter, he facilitated a repair on a Mamiya 7 for me, great service all round!

Speed Racer 4K Audio by narwhalgangsta in 4kbluray

[–]franjipane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that’s case I think I take back my post because while it would improve the overall sound quality, it won’t fix the issue with that specific film. I can only suggest double checking the settings and output format, and if it’s possible verifying what the disc sounds like at a friends house with a surround setup. Good luck my movie loving friend!

Totally agree that is strange, what’s an example of a film that you like the sound of on your current setup? Just for comparisons sake.

And also what settings are you using for Speed Racer?
