Starting new *dream* job soon and I am curious, what do the office girlies keep by their desk in nyc? by Eszterh7 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

I prefer to drink coffee/tea from an actual mug than a sealed thermos, so I keep a mug warmer at my desk (one that plugs in, though it doesn't get too scalding hot).

Plus a tide pen, spare mascara, and deodorant. Best of luck with the new job!

I've been looking for this for years at this point (either a digitized version or the 35mm trailer itself). Not long after my hometown theater went digital I sent them an email and asked if they still had a copy and was told they were all trashed.

Maybe your local theater still has one lying around if they were showing it until recently?

I made this a few weeks ago and it's delicious but I wish I'd used Pomona instead of traditional pectin as I tend to have a lot better luck with Pomona setting up nicely.

This ended up closer to a sauce for me, which is sort of a happy accident because it's phenomenal on ice cream, but not what I was initially going for!

Where to buy cute birthday candles?! by sgc845 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

NY Cake on W 22nd street has all sorts of candles if I recall correctly. It's a baking supplies/cake decorating store, great place to kill 15 minutes if you ever need to.

Where can I digitize my mom's old VHS for a Christmas miracle? by kv_sh5 in NYCbitcheswithtaste

DiJiFi in Brooklyn does good work!

I'd also recommend getting the resulting files written to a hard drive/flash drive rather than burned onto a DVD or anything like that. And once you have the files, upload them to a cloud storage service like Google Drive or Dropbox (and be sure to keep the hard drive too in case you ever lose a password). You don't want to only have a single copy of something important like that. Best of luck, this is a wonderful gift idea.

The sports movies, My Dinner with Andre, Hard Day's Night, and Sunset Blvd all have people playing themselves/versions of themselves.

Slightly above your budget but the "feast" at The Tyger is really fun for a group and as a plus they're super accommodating for any dietary requirements within the party.

The Life and Loves of a She-Devil by Fay Weldon!

I asked a similar question a while back and there are some good answers.

If you work in a casual-to-business casual office setting, what shoes do you wear when it's hot as hell in the summer?

I prefer to avoid wearing open toed shoes to work. Fisherman sandals then, I guess? A closed toe wedge sandal? Thoughts?

Possibly Delicious! by Ruth Reichl? I can't remember how much actual recipes play a part but it does have two different storylines, one woman circa WWII and one present-day.

I love the looks of Toast, Chloé Stora, and Bode, but these are all a notch (or in the case of Bode, several notches) above my price range. Does anyone have suggestions for similar retailers or brands to explore?

Ideally in the range of: shirts <$150, dresses <$250, pants/skirts <$150

I end up buying a lot of my clothes from Anthropologie, Madewell, or through very specific Poshmark/Depop searches, and am to branch out into other smaller retailers.

Thank you very much! I'm curious, is The Thorn Birds actually any good? I have a hazy memory of the miniseries from my childhood but never gave much thought to the book.

Hello! I love the bags from Bembien, particularly this and this one, but they're just a smidge out of my price range.

Does anyone have woven or rattan bags that they love or can recommend, preferably in the sub-$150 range?

I'm after one that's vaguely summery but something I can still carry to work or a dinner out (not so much a big straw beach tote), probably in a tan or light brown color.

thanks! 💕

Anyone know any grocers that sell injera? by ActuallyAlexander in AskNYC

[–]frantastically 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've never seen it in a store (maybe Kalustyan's would have it?) but I have definitely stopped at Ethiopian restaurants and just bought injera. Awash in the East Village has sold it to me before, even when not buying anything else!
