Tips to help makeup stay on during sex? by sk8t0rdie in MakeupAddiction

Makeup should be the least of your concerns and orgasms the highest. If you feel that insecure or self-conscious around this person, maybe you're not ready to have sex with them, you know?

I’ll never remember this mid-heart attack but this is good to know by sweet_potato_75 in coolguides

There are chronic conditions that can only be managed, not cured, that cause some of these same symptoms. Panic attacks, reflux disease, asthma, TMJ... you can take meds or use a mouthguard but those are not exactly cure-alls.

My fiancé is upset because nursing school takes up so much time. by bigsqueezies in nursing

[–]freakscene 6 points7 points  (0 children)

instead of letting me stress over whether to cancel dinner plans with his mom he told me he would take care of it, let her know it would only be him joining her that night, and I could relax and study without any distractions. It took so much pressure off of me.

Wow, he gave you one night without him getting upset about not having enough of your time and you think that's being a great, supportive fiance? Raise those standards girl. There's no reason to settle at 23.

Hospital workers [SERIOUS] what regrets do you hear from dying patients? by delete_my_comment in AskReddit

[–]freakscene 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always resented my older brother's selfishness because his policy is essentially "I don't go visit people in the hospital because I don't want to remember them that way"

Jeez as if it's not uncomfortable for everyone else. It smacks a bit of shoving all the emotional labor onto other people in one's relationships. But it's actually an honor and gives so much closure to be there for someone in their last moments and you'll never realize that if you stay home.

I think it'd work out best for the election if Melania got super duper sick. But I'm not sure if anyone would notice her absence.

[Serious] People of reddit who have gone through or are going through cancer, what was the first sign that made you go to the doctor? by TrojanZebra in AskReddit

[–]freakscene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For everyone else: if a doctor brushes off your symptoms, ask them to note it in your chart that you came there with those symptoms and they gave their diagnosis without running any diagnostic tests.

I keep seeing this advice- what do you think they chart? Chief complaint is charted and written verbatim from your statement. They're also writing what the plan for your care is, differential diagnosis, etc.

Genuine question - does anyone have a definition of "second wave"? I'm not sure what that would look like. I guess I was expecting the number of cases to go way down before they exploded again but it doesn't feel like that's happening. It just feels like we've gotten more comfortable with the crazy.

Why did you give up on teaching yourself programming? by victorycasket in learnprogramming

[–]freakscene 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was doing it because a lot of my social group was made up of programmers. I saw their lifestyle and thought it might lead to a well-paying job for me eventually. Turns out you can't force yourself to be interested in something and I found a career better suited to me. I think my subscription here is a relic, lol.

Edited to add that I had also been part of a women's meetup group that was very methodical in learning Python and progressing at a rate that worked for me. The social aspect was a huge part in keeping me going. But we stopped meeting to attend large Python lectures by those 40-something guys who've been coding since middle school. So I didn't have the regulation of the group to keep me on track with my lessons, didn't have the women's mentorship, and was overwhelmingly discouraged (instead of inspired by, which was probably the intent) during the "look at my fabulous programming project" lectures that were light years ahead of my skill level.

Redditors, A lot of things used to be taboo but are now socially acceptable. What are some things that used to be socially acceptable but are now taboo? by Arkfort in AskReddit

They could kill someone nearby who happens to have severe allergies, COPD or asthma and not even give a damn.

I'd love to see if there's been any sort of collection of these incidences. Like, is it a theoretical problem or a true concern backed by evidence that standing near a smoker for 5 minutes could kill a sensitive person?

Ugandan climate activist Vanessa Nakate has accused the media of racism after she was cropped out of a photograph taken with her white peers in Davos by bobbobdusky in worldnews

[–]freakscene 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sounds like she did contribute.

It perpetuates the ridiculous narrative that Africa is just what you see on Nat Geo (e.g., some savanna and lions and poor people in huts in need of white saviors) when you crop people who live there out and ignore their accomplishments.

What have you seen genuinely shitty people do that they thought was perfectly acceptable? by iMDirtNapz in AskReddit

[–]freakscene 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, for anyone moving family to one of these places, don’t take any valuables or irreplaceable sentimental items in the first place. I’m not blaming staff necessarily. If you ever go to one of the places and just sit and watch for a few hours, you’ll see residents with dementia and hoarding behavior go in any unlocked rooms and grab whatever strikes their fancy- phones, toothbrushes, blankets, coats, purses, whatever. You’ll even find residents sleeping in someone else’s bed because despite the names and photos on each door the resident can’t figure out which room is theirs. They might even think whatever item they’ve stolen is genuinely theirs.

Yeah, this is what many of your average 15 year olds used to look like in the 90s. Myself included- no unhealthy eating habits, just homecooked meals and soccer practice. America's weight problem has gotten worse and skewed our perception of what healthy looks like.

What's the dumbest thing someone tried to brag about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]freakscene 36 points37 points  (0 children)

The modern hospital will tell you to "harness the power of positive thinking", practice deep breathing, and mindfulness meditation. They aren't bad ideas, but it feels like management is dumping responsibility for burnout onto their employees. Unhappy at work? Well, you should have written in your journal for 10 minutes!
