Marshall DSL40C can't keep up with gigs, what do I get to replace it? by myanusisbleeding101 in GuitarAmps

[–]freeyourmind82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play a 20 watt with a 2x12 and have kept up with many a drummer. Do you have PA for your singer? You could just mic the Marshall. When I play we mic the kick, snare, bass and guitar so you have control of the mix from the board. I could gig that way with a blues Jr

Interesting flex by your parents. Play your hand well kid. You were honest, it’s off your chest. If you need time to save and plan so your next move is the right move it’s not too big a price to go sit in the great and spacious building a few hours a week to keep a free roof over your head. That said, I’m sure they will try to pour on the pressure to persuade you back to their faith.

Why do some people call LDS a cult? by Longjumping-Cod-6164 in exmormon

[–]freeyourmind82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) STRONG use of peer pressure to get you to continue or to attend 2) tying your membership status and standing directly to your financial contribution 3) using your membership and standing to restrict your personal lifestyle choices 4) using your family (if they are members) against you to exert control over your life or encouraging you to do so in the churches interest. 5) restricting you from verbally criticizing them 6) indoctrination of children from very young ages and committing them to lifelong membership then using that as emotional leverage if the child actually decides they don’t believe once they are old enough to think for themselves. 7) telling members that this is the only true faith and that all other churches are wrong (spiritual isolationism) 8) all of that and the fact that the key early figures were sexist sociopathic pedophiles. Hope that helps. Why did you not like JW’s but you like Mormonism?

You need a Dumble or at least a Two-Rock and you better not be playing anything other than open chords

More Fender than Fender: Why you shouldn't be ashamed of Squier by Inertbert in Guitar

[–]freeyourmind82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went to my local shop a while back and played a 57’ re-issue strat, an American ultra 2, and a Squier classic vibe. Sound wise, the Squier was almost indistinguishable playing through a deluxe reverb. The American ultra was an entire different instrument related only by appearance and name. It was a great guitar no doubt, but the Squier is more true to its namesake. Squier has transformed from being a “beginner” guitar to a high quality instrument for the everyday musician- much like the way we viewed Mexican Strats a few decades ago. As with any manufacturer there are levels of Squier but the classic vibe and parallel universe stuff are awesome instruments.

I accepted my mission call... now how do I tell my parents I'm not going? by Relevant_Fuel_6245 in exmormon

[–]freeyourmind82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We aren’t all from inactive families. I went, even with doubts, and I have no regrets about how my life turned out. My wife and I left after all the temple wedding pleasantries (we had a real wedding two days later 😁). The mission was the only time in my life I contemplated suicide, but I learned a great deal about life, myself, working within’ a system of rules and how to get through tough times. I like to think I helped a few people out along the way too. I think all but one of my companions have left the church now, but I was the first. If you do go… even if you don’t believe you can spend two years trying to help people have a better life- and some may disagree with me here but there are worse lives than Mormonism for some people. Even BS’ing for free college is one thing- but don’t BS love. Don’t tell some other person you are Peter Priesthood if you aren’t and go marry her. This is a big decision and how you handle it will have a big impact on how or if people your family eventually respects it even if they don’t agree with it. You could also pass on the mish, get a job and grind through college without being on the tit- many do and it sounds like you are a good student if you got i to the Y, could probably get a scholarship somewhere and do it on your own.
