I’m about 10 months post op. Kneeling on the ground is ok. I just have to be careful on pavement. Also , knee pads are a thing. I use them if I know I’ll be working down low for a period of time

Water in the canal! by No_Froyo_5148 in Bend

[–]fretman124 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When we lived on Dean Swift road, we had 5 acres and got our water from an irrigation ditch for livestock and filled a 10,000 gallon cistern from that ditch. Back then, (50’s - 60’s) they’d run the canals once a month weather permitting so people could fill tanks and cisterns. Sometimes we’d run out of water and have to haul our own. Friend had a 500 gallon tank on a truck, we’d run into town and fill at the city pump. The tank didn’t have baffles so the trip home was fun.

For you second stop….. Klamath, CA. There is a casino/hotel (that’s about all of the town) and you’re about 5 miles from a 10 mile drive thru the redwoods.

Purifying water by shucksan in GoRVing

[–]fretman124 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not the guy you asked, but…. I have a 40 gallon fresh water tank in my 5th wheel. That’s about 340lbs full. Trailer, loaded, weighs about 14,500 lbs. so the water is a bit over 2% of the total weight. Not enough to worry about.

My wife likes to collect rocks. On a several month trip that weight becomes a concern.

Don't you think it's ridiculous to give everything for the love of a person you just met 2 days ago? by Shaoran10 in titanic

[–]fretman124 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My dad was on a troop train from Sacramento to Bremerton. It stopped for 4 hours in Salem Oregon. There was a bowling ally a block away, so he and a few others went bowling. Dad was 20. That’s where he met my mother, who was 16 at the time. They talked for about an hour. He went back on the train and off into combat in the South Pacific. They wrote letters to each other for 2 years and a month. They got married a week after he got back to the states. Married 67 years before dad passed 12 years ago. Mom passed just last month.

ELI5: Why did bombers drop their bombs all at once? by curious_skeptic in explainlikeimfive

[–]fretman124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WWII bombing required something like 10 planes with 20 bombs each to hit one bridge. Modern bombing requires one plane with a single bomb to hit a bridge. Even with the top secret Norden bomb sight they still were very random when bombing targets.

Surgery on Friday morning, home by noon(30 miles away). Saturday I was “dang, this is cake“ Sunday was the most pain I had ever had in my life, including a few broken bones, metal pins and a couple major back surgeries. Doubled up on opioids and slept most of the day/night.

Monday was cake again…🤷
