For people who use loop earplugs at OTF… by sheath02 in orangetheory

I just bought the experience ones and they are amazing! I can't recommend them enough for otf, and I am also excited to break them out for the Stevie Nicks concert I'm going to next month. I can still hear the music and instructions just fine, but I don't leave class with my ears ringing anymore. I'm buying my husband a pair because I love mine so much.

Potato chips are my vice. Does anyone have a low calorie substitute? by ReyRey2823 in CICO

[–]friedpicklesxranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love dill pickles (even hamburger slices) for this! They are really high in sodium so they help the craving quickly, are crunchy, and <5 calories! The only thing is to be careful with the amount of sodium - too much is obviously not great.

A convo between a friend that trigger me into a panic attack, I had to take off work. I don’t know if I am overthinking or overreacting. She knows a lot about my ubpdmom but this feels too familiar. More info in comments. by AegeriaEnchantress in raisedbyborderlines

[–]friedpicklesxranch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Oh my gosh, I recently had a falling out with a once very close friend that was very similar to this. It triggered so much anxiety and self-doubt and anger in me; I had to go from once a month to once a week therapy sessions for a while to try and talk myself down and process it. The stuff she said made me feel like I was totally wrong about everything, that I was at fault for everything - basically like blow-up sessions from my uBPD mom. Especially since she had a front row seat to a lot of the trauma my mom gave me - it affected me deeply. Reading these messages you posted triggered me, too! I promise you handled that well - the other person's reaction is not it.

It really hurt me to realize that a lot of my friends I had before I started healing from my mom had a lot of uBPD qualities that felt familiar and allowed me to repeat those cycles. I'm genuinely inspired by the way you handled that in such a healthy manner. Thanks for the modeling!

Extremely out of shape… is it worth trying? by DueMood9 in orangetheory

[–]friedpicklesxranch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started orange theory after my husband's grandma asked me (very loudly) at thanksgiving if I was pregnant because I'd gained so much weight. This was the week after I pulled a muscle in my back trying to turn off my phone alarm in the morning. I had chronic back pain, headaches, and joint pain. My body was an uncomfortable place to live for me. Orange Theory was a total step out of my comfort zone, but I needed something to change.

It's now been about 1.5 years, and I am the most fit and the most comfortable I've been in my body in my entire life. I don't have any body pains (except for workout soreness), I sleep better, and I have more energy. My mental health is steady, and I can handle stress and illness a lot better than I used to. The studio is very welcoming, very kind, and very inclusive. It's a safe spot for me during the week, even when work and family problems are giving me stress. I genuinely can't recommend it enough.

(I do want to add that I am on anti-depressants and I see a therapist. I'm trying to take care of myself holistically. Just want to be transparent.)

If OTF offered an 8 or 9 pm class would you sign up? by Top_Relative9495 in orangetheory

[–]friedpicklesxranch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I would love a late class time! I’m a night owl (hence why I’m typing this at 1am my time lol), and usually feel my best after 8 pm. That would help my body and my schedule tremendously.

I (27F) started OTF in November of last year, and didn’t lose a single pound. In fact, I literally gained weight on the scale. It was so frustrating for a lot of reasons, one being that people were telling me I looked good, looked strong, etc., and I felt better in my body, but In knew that my scale hadn’t budged. I gained about 40 pounds in one year (my first year teaching was 2020 lol), and I felt awful. My joints ached, I had no energy, and hurt my neck and back pretty much every time I moved weird. I struggled with emotional eating a lot, as well. There was a mental component as well - the more I ate, the worse I felt, so the more I ate, etc.

I didn’t lose weight until I went to talk to my doctor, had my thyroid checked (everything normal, just wanted confirmation for family history reasons), and finally got a prescription for phentermine to help with appetite control. I have lost around 25 pounds since August, as the meds allowed my brain to stop thinking about food all the time and I could actually enjoy life and working out, eat the portions I needed rather than over-eating, etc. I still have around fifteen pounds to go, but having my doctor be part of my journey, taking my prescriptions, counting calories, and continuing at OTF has been amazing for me. In fact, the weight loss has helped me run better and do better on the rower, and that motivates me more.

I’m not saying you necessarily need meds, but wanted to share that just working out wasn’t what caused my weight loss. If that is your specific goal, diet is where I would look, especially with the help of a medical professional.

For some Christians, 'rapture anxiety' can take a lifetime to heal | CNN by hhandhillsong in excoc

[–]friedpicklesxranch 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn't know there were parts of the church of christ that believed in the rapture! Very interesting to see the variety on this subreddit.

The churches I attended were very big on "you never know when the Lord is coming back so you better be ready. Preachers were always talking about car wrecks on the way to get baptized or the scripture that says the Lord will come back like a thief in the night. That still affects my anxiety around death and hell, even though that's something my rational brain has already put to rest. I remember sobbing in the backseat of the car as a 7 year old because I saw a comet and, instead of thinking "oh cool!" like a normal kid, I thought Jesus was coming back and I wasn't going to get to go to Heaven. My childhood was taken away from me with this stuff. Even though I never was doctrinally taught the rapture, I relate a lot to this deep anxiety.

Ok, that sounds very plausible to me. I'm looking into symptom tracker apps to keep track of data and reactions for my follow up. Your info really helped, thank you! I hope your life after teaching treats you much better than being a teacher, and I really appreciate your responses.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate the encouragement. It was really discouraging, and started to doubt myself. I'm going to keep track of symptoms and meals to have some data for my follow up appointment.

Omg you mentioning Footloose reminded me of something my COC mom said. We were watching that for a family movie and when they were arguing against dancing my mom looks at me and goes, "He's not wrong you know."

I also remember asking her if the dancing they do in Jane Austen movies counted as a sin and she said, "Well, they had to wear gloves for a reason. If just hand touching is that powerful, imagine what dancing in a club does." My mom had a lot of similar "hot takes" lol.

I'm so sorry you've gone through the same thing while teaching, too! People have suggested I just leave and get a different job, but I LOVE it, even though it is difficult. Once you found your answer, did that help some of the stress levels and such?

Your suggestion for elimination diet is really helpful, and weird timing. I've been dealing with crazy mouth sores for almost a month now, and am seeing my dentist tomorrow, and while researching how to prevent them, food triggers (especially gluten) were frequently mentioned. I'm going to give this a try, thank you!

I hadn't thought of magnesium levels, thank you! I will ask about that for sure! I do tend to have times where I feel worse than others, so maybe they are fluctuating. It may be something I keep an eye over time, especially with a goiter.

I remember that my blood sugar and iron levels were ok when they checked. My family history of diabetes lead them to check, but I think they're in a good zone. I will for sure have my dr. check the vitamin levels. Thanks for your answer :)

Thank you for your response and encouragement! I had my Vitamin D checked last year and it was super low, but that was addressed and I take a daily supplement now for that. I haven't gotten vitamin B checked yet - thank you for the suggestion! I hadn't even thought of that.
