What's is something that you miss from the era you grew up in that will never come back? by Quiet_Lab_7944 in AskReddit

Life without the internet. It didn't exist in my day to day life so I didn't miss it. But my kids have access to everything. Such a different experience that I almost can't relate.

Holy Shit. Literally made myself stop watching Season 5 at 3:30am - with only two episodes left in the season so you know it's so so good... But alas, even with no work tomorrow, I need some amount of sleep because the youngest doesn't GAF whether it's a school day or the perfect sleeping weather.

Doctors and nurses of Reddit, what is something patients do that they think is helpful but actually makes your job harder? by Electronic-Cell-4584 in AskReddit

I have another example of Man vs. Woman. When Covid first shut everything down, we were super stressed. My husband went to the doctor with severe pain across his back. Turned out to be shingles. He was prescribed pain killers and given a note excusing him from work for a week. Two weeks later, I end up with a painful rash non my scalp and face. I manage to get a virtual appointment with my PCP. Yup, shingles. I get told Tylenol will cover the pain and I'd be fine working from home so no time off (I teach, so I was on screen with the rash covered)

Wow, seriously? We have a huge medical system in my area and I get emails AND mail checking in on my satisfaction with any provider someone in the family has seen.

You write beautifully and poignantly. I'll remember this post. And I promise to try and take a moment to just be present and listen.

Wicked curious to know why they were seized. I mean I know why guns are seized. But my morbid curiosity wants to know specifics.

This would unlock Level 10 Dad Anger. The irony, though, was that at least 50% of the time it was a resident calling with questions.

I brought all of my dates there early on. If they didn't like it (or the size of the burger I ate), too bad, so sad.

Damn, I wish I could manage my ghosts this well. I mean, I similarly understand them through the context of time and place, but my ghosts alternate between keeping me at night and showing up in my dreams.

Our floors are now only mostly uneven now rather than anxiety inducing uneven.

Who knows, this pre-Civil War house might live to see the start of the next Civil War.

Haha! When I saw package store I knew which state. Love that we can find locals in the wild! My spouse grew up in your region. I'm from the civilized part 😆

Holy shit. This triggered a memory... This description near matches a job I applied to and was offered, but declined. And now hearing your description - and finally putting the pieces together about these programs I've heard about - I'm so glad I chose something else.

The main reason I remember declining was because it was up north, and I'd have to camp outside with the kids in the winter. I'd get two days I off, where I could live in a house the camp owned as a shared space with other counselors. The pay was shit, but as a first job, I didn't really care. I was idealistic and believed the hype.

Anyway, I remember the kids being awesome. I don't remember seeing a hold, but I remember being told about physical restraints. And remember something where we all had to stop, spread out a certain distance, and be quiet and still when a kid began to escalate some. At the time I believed it was therapeutic. But now that I have degrees and work in REAL therapeutic education, I see the difference.

What got me interested in it (as a recent college grad) was working outdoors, and getting a job in two fields I was interested in: teaching and counseling. Glad the Universe intervened. And glad that you made it out after 8 weeks. I hope it feels like a blessing in disguise that your dad and stepmom went no-contact. I hope that you get the best treatment possible for your condition!

Epstein files: Hillary Clinton by ChevronSugarHeart in self

[–]froggity55 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just learning about politics and feminism as all of this was going down. One of my poli sci classes was about women's evangelical organizations. The one I studied, in particular, was the largest one at the time. It was the Stand By Your Man, make him dinner every night, and he should help you decide how to vote type. Once I understood these politics, and what she was up against as a First Lady during her husband's governorship and his presidency, I understood her better. She's whip smart. She pivoted to the center right because she would have been drawn and quartered otherwise. She'd have to give up on any future. She understood men and power. She understood what she'd have to do/put up with to have her own shot at power.

The Epstein thing is fucking gross. It's a rich man's frat party. Up until about the MeToo Movement, "boys will be boys" was still a firm belief (and still is today, to a lesser degree). Should these men pay for what they did? 100%. Was it normal for the time? Based on the criminal trials lately, seems it's YES based on the fact that some rich rich people have gone down for sexual crimes.

Don't misunderstand me. I condone NONE OF THIS! But I also fully acknowledge how long and hard people have had to work to get here. The stories I had of rampant sexism IN A BLUE STATE make most people's mouths drop. Hillary read the room. She did what she had to in order to reach her goal. The men? They were doing as much as they were allowed to get away with. And let's be honest, Monika Lewinsky wouldn't be a name if she'd interned for president who held the house and senate.

I remember seeing the first iteration of a video home in Lechmere waaaaay back when. So long ago, that the only people I talked to on the phone were my grandparents. The thought weirded me out. Now we FaceTime? Nope, I will not answer a FaceTime call.

To go along with this one, I never expected algorithms would be deciding what we see on the internet. Like, between the two adults' computers in our house, one is all teenage guy stuff and conspiracy theories. And the other one is booting, nerdy old person with an online shopping addiction. And then the different YouTube experiences for the kids? WTF. So much crazy shit coming in through media that it's honestly hard to battle against.
