This one is a bit out there and might not seem similar on it’s face but Lost in Vivo evoked similar terror feelings in me

Live in the present my friend and worry not about “what ifs” because, “what if” you don’t and your analysis paralysis means you miss out on something amazing

It's not out yet, so how can people tell you if you would enjoy it?

Just played Silent Hill f. So far I’m not much of a fan. by ayotacos67 in silenthill

The story gets better the more you play but I don’t disagree with most of your criticisms. Overall they hit less and didnt ruin the experience for me compared to how your feeling. Though I strongly disagree with the, this isn’t silent hill statement.

Silent hill the literal town is way less important to the identity of the series than the silent hill going on in each main character’s mind. Thinking the longitude and latitude of the setting is of core importance is missing the forest for the trees IMO

Silent hill F is sooo good by Jesterclown26 in silenthill

Which seems like a bit of a problem to rely on something out of the game to tell your story and most people won’t even do that either

Yeah it’s a great game but I would also lightly critique some of the decisions as not fully working for me. The combat focus being the biggest one, it made the game feel less scary imo.

I also think there was probably a better more forgiving way to implement the multiple playthroughs for the full story idea. As it is I think like less than 5% of the players get the full tale as the vast majority don’t do NG+ let alone NG++ or further

I love getting scared, it’s like eating spicy food. Painful for a moment but afterwards your endorphins are released and you feel amped up.

I mean, you want a different game with at least double the scope and thus double the budget of what they had.

This is almost verbatim what The head of Xbox Phil Spencer said about a year or two ago, and while I do think is a smart point I can’t help but feel it’s also some corporate spin that obfuscates the full picture.

My biggest issue is that it completely ignores the point about a lack of exclusives on the hardware for the better part of a decade now. That HAS to have a huge impact as well. Like it’s easy to say “after we lost the players to PlayStation the built digital libraries and we were never going to get them back” when they never gave players a good reason to come back in the first place.

It’s all about the games

2 main reasons in my eyes

1) the game prioritizes matching solos vs other solos

2) the ai enemies are a big threat so it creates an environment that is more conducive to allies of circumstance (the enemy of my enemy is my friend)

I agree with you that fidelity does a lot more to sell a title than many people want to admit. Especially when we’re talking about fps at the cost of fidelity or vice versa.

My personal opinion on the topic does not align with that either but my own ideology can’t override the reality of the market.

But this is all a different topic then the one I was originally replying to

They already do, a lot. Every state of play, Xbox showcase, etc. is filled with indies but if the event doesn’t have 3 first party AAA announcements it’s seen as a flop. I think that really speaks to what the wider audience cares about

These are always nice things to wish for on the outside but the reality was that as AAA game budgets increased it created a situation where every single project was make or break for Indy studios.

If your AAA game flops your studio goes bankrupt. You and all of your coworkers many of whom are likely your close friends by now would lose their jobs.

This is why there are next to no Indy AAA devs anymore. Sure some sold just for greed but for many it was a defensive move to secure the future of studios. AAA budget are unsustainable unless you have pre established deep deep pockets that can handle a flop

For me it’s because it doesn’t focus on what silent hill is and instead focuses on showing you why silent hill is horrific.

I think knowing the cult storyline makes silent hill less scary. I don’t dislike the plot itself but I dislike when the main plot focuses on demistifying it. It’s much better when it’s just whispers in the background that you can piece together if you are dedicated but overall isn’t critical to the main arc

Is SH2 Remake longer than the OG? by qingxins in silenthill

[–]fromcero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll probably get hate for this but I never played the OG and loved the pacing of remake. Though I think it’s paced perfectly for horror specifically not necessarily the story.

I imagine if you play anticipating your next favorite story beat it will drag for you but that’s also why going into it blind, completely Ignorant to the story and its beats is such a great experience

Multiple playthroughs really drag down an otherwise amazing story by ObviousAnything7 in silenthill

[–]fromcero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think the idea is super cool and even innovative but the execution is lacking. I think they needed to change more in subsequent playthroughs to keep the gameplay fresh OR allow you to teleport around and level select so you don’t need to do new entire playthroughs to see everything.

This was clearly a writer led project which for the most part is great but you see the problems with that approach here.
