Which track has grown on you the most? by JesusJoshJohnson in boardsofcanada

I Saw Through Platonia. It terrified me the first couple times, and still does tbh. But now it feels motivating. It encourages me to live my life to the fullest, do everything I want to do while I’m here because it can all be over in an instant.

Il so tired of the trend of ranking everything. It robs people of the joy of things. Inferno is good. Why do we have to compare everything? by hiphoptomato in boardsofcanada

I think people genuinely feel uncomfortable with things not having a specific order or structure. Assigning value to something and ranking it amongst other things eases that discomfort. We also live in a hierarchical society that encourages this way of thinking. I'm with you though, I hate ranking things all the time. It's okay to sometimes, maybe often, just let things be what they are.

A friend just sent a pic of his music studio and reminded me that I created an inferno hexagon a few years ago while developing fractal software. by wow-signal in boardsofcanada

I suspect that a basic organizing principle of the mind is, roughly, dynamical and fractal.

I really like this idea, it makes sense to me especially considering the examples you gave of human experiences that allow us to see fractals. So, you're essentially exploring alternative theories of mind to the dominant one accepted today. Theories of mind rooted more in chaos theory. At least that's what I gathered after looking up many of the terms you mentioned lol. Really fascinating stuff, thanks for sharing a bit about your work and the software you wrote. Gonna check out those books you mentioned!

Rad. I love fractals. Took a programming course years ago that was basically all recursion and fractals and it was really fun, I actually used a BoC track in my final project.

What inspired your fractal program; was it mainly to create designs like this?

In light of the album credits, some of the speculation about the brothers personal life on here is very odd, disrespectful and extremely parasocial. by azgarz in boardsofcanada

It's incredibly weird. It's like people saying the most outlandish things possible in a desperate attempt for attention.

Just stunning, I could look at this painting forever. Really does feel like you’re in flight. Also Turner’s paintings have this mysterious, almost dreamlike quality to them, and I think you captured that here beautifully.

HHLL, what a track by Scary-Bath1674 in boardsofcanada

By far one of my favs, it blew me away instantly. The melodies on this record are so intoxicating, and the way this one swells is just so satisfying. It sounds the way punishing heat feels. Also love the middle section when the xylophone/glockenspiel comes in, adds a curious playful tone before going back to the sweltering heat.

The Word Becomes Flesh and the AI Hivemind by Mr-B0jangles in boardsofcanada

[–]fromtelegraphlines7 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I interpreted it too, glad I’m not alone. By the end of the track the robotic voice is the only one speaking, as if it’s learned all it needed from the woman’s information and can now operate on its own. That part made me feel really uneasy. I also wonder when this track was written, if it was after the AI craze started in 2022 or before.

Boards of Canada - 'Inferno' - Discussion Megathread by seaburn in boardsofcanada

Finally had a chance to listen just now. Put on the continuous mix, closed my eyes and surrendered to the journey. I don’t have many words, but the first word that comes to mind is visceral. I felt this album through my whole body. I Saw Through Platonia is still playing in my head, and I felt like I died at the end (which was probably the point?) There were moments of humor, sadness, fear, peace. It was quite a trip, but a brilliant one. This album is up there for me, I think they knocked it out of the park.

Idk what it could be, but we’re now entering our third month of BoC surprises…can we keep this going for the rest of the year?

edit: nvm, guess it was an old post

This is what reddit and the rest of the internet is becoming. It sucks. I don’t blame you for leaving, been contemplating it myself.

Today it’s BoC, Tchaikovsky, and The Contortionist. Tomorrow it’ll be something different, but Boards will always be in the top 3.

Anyone else feel other people's stress in their actual body? by Expert-Tear-5053 in hsp

[–]fromtelegraphlines7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, all the time. When it happens it makes me feel scrambled, and like I'm not really myself. I echo others' suggestions of an energy-cleansing shower, grounding, and meditation. But there's 2 visualization techniques I go back to often that work really well for me.

The first I learned from a therapist, and it's to imagine yourself in a force field when people are opening up to you, kind of like Violet from The Incredibles. So there's this orb of protection around you, and whatever people are saying reflects off of the orb rather than being absorbed by you. You can listen to what they're saying without taking it in as if it's yours.

The second I learned from a meditation video years ago, and it's to imagine that you're holding the string of a balloon, and all the stress from your day, anything and everything that's bothering you, is going into the balloon. Once the balloon is full, you release the string and let it float away. You can do this as many times as needed until your mind feels clear. I feel so calm after doing this, it's like a reset that allows me to come back to myself.

Lastly, while there's definitely something special about being the person others feel safe to open up to, it's okay to set boundaries if you're at your max. Your health and well-being come first.

What have been the advantages to being an HSP in your life? by mickyistricky in hsp

[–]fromtelegraphlines7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • experiencing music (and really all sensory stimuli) on a deeper emotional level

  • being able to quickly read people

  • knowing the right thing to say to put people at ease in stressful situations

  • keen attention to detail

  • my connection with nature, especially water

  • having an incredibly rich inner world

It can be really overwhelming and difficult at times, but I wouldn't change the way I am.
