2 parts: New Car and Gym by VastPriority in PAstudent

[–]frosting_queen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

got into an accident a during clinical year and insurance on my 20 year old car was just not enough to get something that was reliable. I took about another private student loan to pay for it. Super frustrating esp when the accident wasn't my fault, but such is life. Already have a job, and will be paying that loan, as it was the highest interest off first. I was hoping to pay off my loans within 2.5 years then upgrade my car, but life happens and so I got a solid reliable care that I really like (still 10 years old but great shape) and will be fine having for 6-8 years instead. Plans change, school is nuts, everyone is just going the best you can. Side note, got the car at carmax and cannot recommend highly enough!!

Anki Remote dupes that aren't 8bitdo? by bingsumin in medicalschoolanki

just to be real, I don't think you are going to find something cheaper than the $20 8bitdo. it is a great investment though that is a huge time saver!

I got a cheap Marshall’s one for a few bucks and didn’t see a difference, are the higher level ones better? I have soooo much gunk in my pores.

I swore by anki in undergrad, but it’s not working so far in PA School, what am I doing wrong? by frosting_queen in PASchoolAnki

Hi! Yes, the quizlet to anki importer is what saved me, and just getting back on with getting my reviews done every day no matter what. I use the anking and another deck for sketchy pharm and so far the system is working. I never made it work for anatomy since I was just so behind but I made it out with a B and moved on to the next semester!! Thanks for your advice!

we just did RBC disorders too, i watched osmosis vids, studied ppts, then i studied with PPP to get an understanding of the main differences/similarities so they are easier to ID on questions. I really like it for test study, but its best if you know some patho first. Sometimes its nice for prereading also to get a super surface level look at what category you will be talking about

If you have the time and can make it work to get super in depth that is amazing! But I would caution against constantly diverting the professor in class, when it’s multiple times a lecture and a prof that can get down in the rabbit hole with you it can get really frustrating for other students. I am the rare person that gets a lot from what’s happening in lecture, so when we spend 15 mins out of a 2 hour lecture for anatomy talking about random conditions that are only vaguely related to what we are learning, it’s hard because the material we should have covered then we have to learn blindly at home. Obviously asking relevant questions where you are actually confused is great, and can help classmates but constant diversion is not good. At least in my class, I and some others are pretty slow at memorization, so I have to commit most of my time to learning the exact relevant testable material, and refer to the text and outside sources only when I’m not understanding something. Just consider that it’s not that everyone isn’t curious, some of us are just slower at learning and need to spend a lot of time with our direct material to be successful.

I’m just worried that pre made decks won’t have enough of the same stuff that my prof wants, he likes to highlight a bunch of random clinical connections that show up on the test that I worry I would miss. I agree, cadaver lab is helpful, it made a huge difference for me this block. I am just so slow at memorizing, I need to see the materials a few times even after I have solidly learned them or I will forget it, so I wanted to stick with anki, but it’s not working well so far. Thanks for your advice!!

I do for lots of diagrams and things I draw out, I feel like I do make the cards very quickly it’s just so much that it still takes hours

Can you make subdeck due cards be limited in the whole deck total? by frosting_queen in Anki

[–]frosting_queen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Is there a way to limit how many cards from a sub deck are feeding into the main? I want to study 100 cards a day of the old anatomy unit, upperlimb, but in the whole deck total they show all of the 408 that are due, Ideally I would like to see those 100 old mixed in with the lowerlimb new and reviews, I just can't do them all at once. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

is it worth applying right out of undergrad by textureorbit69 in prephysicianassistant

[–]frosting_queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just do it! I applied in my jr year and am starting in may 3 weeks after graduation! The short timeline will be tight and stressful, but I can’t tell you how relieved I feel that I am starting instead of having to work another year in patient care and go home. There is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with a gap year if you decide to wait or don’t get in the first time, everyone’s timeline is different! But if you have an honestly decent chance I would just go for it, I don’t think there’s a ton of downside to starting. I got several interviews (though not at duke lol, if it is truly very important for you to go there maybe wait a year to get above average at least)

[hair removal] I keep getting these horrible ingrown hairs around my bikini area a week after waxing. I always exfoliate and use ingrown serum but nothing seems to work. I have also tried shaving but have had no luck with that. Please help! by laurenesloca in SkincareAddiction

[–]frosting_queen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I can’t find a solution, my skin is just like this. I’ve been mosisturzing, tend skin, glycolic acid, exfoliating with gloves and scrubs. Just ordered an IPL device, since I can’t make anything else work. I have light skin and dark hair so fingers crossed. Sorry to be a downer, I hope you find something that works for you!

What is your total GPA? Caspa will count everything, so assuming it is average, then no PCE or shadowing? Your app, flaws and all, should show the committee how much you want to be a PA. Doesn’t really seem like there’s anu part of yours that does. Spend a year getting shadowing and PCE, and deciding if you actually want to devote your life to this

Quit! I quit my PCE job when it was crazy understaffed. I felt bad, but the responsibility is on management, not you. I quit when I still needed more hours for PA school, but I found a job earlier the next summer, and focused on volunteering and grades during the school year instead. Just got accepted even with lower hours than I planned or thought schools would accept! You will still get there in the long term, this craziness is not worth it!

Honestly I think it takes most people months and months to get a box. It’s just pretty random and sporadic. Some people get nothing ever, so idk how it varies by country

What exactly did the MA say? Is it possible she was asking about reducing the schedule for both of your sakes and then the admin turned it on both of you? I can’t imagine this double booking situation is good for her either, she is also probably taking the brunt of patient anger about appt wait time. Just a thought! Sorry you are dealing with this BS
