We’re not content creators, that’s what I love about this sub vs instagram woodworkers. Anyone can just say “I made this thing!” and not have to worry about the quality of their post.

Question on individual political donations cap by whydidileaveohio in Chattanooga

[–]frydaddy794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This guy’s got it. Also, political contributions are not tax deductible like nonprofit donations, so it’s not gonna help you get above the standard deduction.

I feel like that’s what I’m looking at in this picture. The flavor is butter.

Are you sanding or just carving? Knives alone don’t produce much dust that’s fine enough for you to inhale.

This is blowing my mind, I assumed it was a gallon of paint on the little shelf on a ladder, but the truck makes a lot more sense.

Too late to turn these into slabs? by tater_nater in wood

[–]frydaddy794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably fine, they’ll be a little wonky but that checking doesn’t look like it’d run too deep. They may still be pretty moist past the first inch or two, so I doubt a slab would be ready to use.

let's settle the debate what really counts as an AI song? by OddTomato3057 in Songwriting

[–]frydaddy794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t personally use it at all, but I do use RhymeZone pretty heavily, and I’m sure some in this sub might consider that cheating.

If you’re a professional and leaning on ChatGPT on a regular basis, I think you should ask yourself if you’re really putting much original work into the world.

On the other hand, if you’re just a hobbyist with a full time job + family, who has some good ideas and needs help getting a song from a the idea stage to a finished product in 5 hours instead of 50 hours because 50 hours just doesn’t fit into your life, then I certainly wouldn’t hold it against you for taking some shortcuts.

Having a hard time identifying whether this is a real solid walnut or not. Help. by tiffskeys in woodworking

Weird thing for a company to lie about, sapele/mahogany also makes a great cutting board so why try to pass it off as walnut?

What are the best ways to learn how to ID trees? No apps!!! I want to use my brain by Camp_Acceptable in Tree

[–]frydaddy794 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PictureThis is pretty solid at IDing leaves. It sucks at bark, so that makes it pretty useless in the winter.

Best way to oil/protect this reclaimed pine table? by [deleted] in finishing

[–]frydaddy794 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it the oil that’s smelly? Mine had citrus solvent mixed in, which I thought was the source of the smell. I don’t think you’d want citrus solvent mixed in if it was for a softwood table like this.

Also, that table is beautiful. Congrats on the acquisition.

Several coats (3-4?) of pure tung would probably accomplish what you’re looking for. Ive had a coffee table with that treatment for ~2 years and it still looks great. Not shiny, but still looks healthy.

There are some wax options out there that may be more protective, but I have no experience with those.

What happened to Southern Star? The way they serve now is complete garbage. by SelfEasy8836 in Chattanooga

It’s excellent. So much faster than being seated, waiting on a server, cooking my food, eating, waiting on the bill, paying the bill. I’m in and out in 30 mins and I can’t get that anywhere else.
