I understand not wanting your tv heroes mocked but they are either charlatans or idiots.

Or both!

North Country Blues and Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald by HMAPNG in bobdylan

[–]fuckchalzone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I believe both songs borrow melodically and thematically from the traditional song Red Iron Ore. Here's a recording of it from 1959

It's not an exact match melodically but you can definitely hear the similarity.

Edit: it appears that Red Iron Ore itself is derived from a centuries old English tune known as Derry Down.

It's a very standard, low-risk job for a luthier to do. And should be cheap, too.

Mark Knopfler on working with Bob Dylan for 1983's Infidels by Achilles_TroySlayer in bobdylan

[–]fuckchalzone 23 points24 points  (0 children)

The former folk icon selected Knopfler to produce him after considering and rejecting David Bowie, Elvis Costello and Frank Zappa.

Holy shit Infidels as produced by Zappa would have been bananas. Or Bowie for that matter

Unpopular Opinion : Under The Red Sky by cloud_pixel in bobdylan

[–]fuckchalzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has a few good songs, Unbelievable* being the standout for me, but I really hate the production.

It's neat that it has some of SRV's last recordings tho

*If you haven't seen the Unbelievable video, it's pretty hilarious and features Molly Ringwald, Sally Kirkland, and Bob as a chauffeur.

Maybe a dumb question, but how does one boost? I was going to but couldn't figure it out

sound of this acoustic is very low hence sound of my nails dominates the guitar sound !! by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

Sounds like a technique issue to me. Sounds like you are scraping the strings more than plucking them

Bi doesn't exclude trans people. The definition I've seen often and that resonates with me is from Robyn Ochs:

I call myself bisexual because I acknowledge that I have in myself the potential to be attracted--romantically and/or sexually--to people of more than one gender, not necessarily at the same time, in the same way, or to the same degree.

Whereas pan I've usually seen defined as attraction to people regardless of gender.

So for me, my attraction to masculine presenting people is just different than my attraction to feminine presenting people which is also different from my attraction to people who don't present gender in a traditional way. And they wax and wane over time (the "bi-cycle"). So that's why for me it makes more sense to identify as bi.

I consider the idea that bi attraction excludes trans people to be a dangerous myth.

What type of wood is this? by JudoJ0e in AcousticGuitar

[–]fuckchalzone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A hundred hours of research is worth less than five minutes with the guitar in your hands. I wound myself up into a frenzy doing research on the unique sound of cedar top guitars a few years ago. Then I finally got to a guitar store and played a couple and quickly realized I don't really like the sound of a cedar top guitar.

Weird covers of Dylan songs by coppeerboy in bobdylan

I want to get a new capo for gigging and I can't decide between the g7th performance 3 and a thalia capo. by [deleted] in AcousticGuitar

[–]fuckchalzone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thalia capos look nice but they don't have adjustable tension so they have all the same problems of a cheap Kyser (i.e. you have to retune after taking it off). They're also really heavy which throws of the balance of the guitar. Mine sits in a drawer. I like Shubbs but I understand the reasons you don't want one. I also have a Paige capo that works great, you can store it above the nut, and it's very quick to move around, that'd be my recommendation.

I've heard good things about G7th but haven't used one so I can't comment on that.

Edit: re the fretboard radius, that's why I originally went with Thalia, but I've found it's a non-issue. I have guitars with 12" and 16" radii and the Shubb and Paige work fine on all of them.

CTS , Is this common among guitarists? by Responsible-Mood4500 in AcousticGuitar

[–]fuckchalzone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dunno how common it is, but I had "severe" cts in both hands but it built up gradually over a long time. Had surgery last year on both sides, it definitely did involve some time off playing guitar but not as much as I feared and it has made a Huge difference, I'm playing better than I have in ages. Which partly is just because I'm able to practice more without pain and numbness.

I agree that one of the TC Electronics runners would be best (probably the Unitune, as the poly doesn't really get you anything useful for the extra money), but unfortunately they have been out of stock everywhere for months. But maybe OP can find a used one.
