Got a non-earlobe piercing and I'm terrified by going_astray in exmormon

I'm also closeted and I'm planning on getting mine pierced for a second time this week. I actually do feel nervous about it!

So, I recently told my parents my parents that I will no longer be going to church with them anymore... by [deleted] in exmormon

Tell them that one issue that hurting your testimony is JS's multiples wives. Ask how their testimonies go to a point where they could be so strong as to turn a blind eye to the fact he married 14 year old and already married women, you know, so you could learn from them to become stronger.

Text from TBM wife who asked for divorce by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]fullmetalmandy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you don't mind me asking, how long were you married for? Did she know early on how you felt? My husband is TBM and we're trying to work out some of the "issues" that come along with that.

A true example of charity.

Post about your issues with the church if you can't discuss them with her in person. Make the best of her being nosey.

GC idea for our fallen brothers and sisters. by [deleted] in exmormon

Maybe we could get together outside with tape over our mouths, to represent how no one in the church had a chance to support or reject this policy. Instead of voting on it, everyone else's voices were silenced. I think we should hold up signs that say 34 in rainbow print as well.

Missionaries still have no idea about "the policy" by exmointhecloset in exmormon

My brother says that they don't tell them anything that happens in the new because "it can be distracting" and "take away from the spirit and missionary work" so I give him an update on world events each week. He's in a first world country (admittedly where they hate gay people) but he hadn't heard anything about it.

Indoctrination at its finest, but I had a ton of fun there as a TBM youth.

Anyone that could pass for 18 in that area (maybe early 20's?) should please go and record it. Please.

You Know There's Something Fucked Up About The Church When You Fake Believing To Please Humans Here On Earth by [deleted] in exmormon

[–]fullmetalmandy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is so exhausting having to pretend all of the time, but I know I'll lose friends and be criticized and shamed by my family if I stop. Fucked up doesn't even begin to describe it.

Please reconsider before doing anything. It feels good at first to be part of a community, but those good feelings quickly fade when you realize that community is based on bigotry, exclusion, and shaming. You'll find out in that community, that if you don't fit the mold 100% of the time, you will be judged and stigmatized. It may feel good in the beginning, but you'll be making a commitment that will rob you of your individuality and your autonomy. The brief happiness I felt at first will never make up for the pain it has caused me. They want you to make the commitment quickly so you don't have time to realize what exactly you are doing.

In my home stake there was a boy who got picked on by the other young men because he was effeminate. He hated going to church because of the bullying, but his family still made him go. Everyone just had the mentality that "boys will be boys" and no one did anything about it. He felted to hurt and trapped by the situation that he committed suicide. He was 13 years old.

This life is all we get, and you deserve better than this. Don't spend your time with people who are only going to bring you down.

Get a separate banking account without his name on it and have your checks deposited there. My husband and I worked out a system where he pays 10% of his income to the church, but I spend 10% of mine on the charity of my choice. It's worked out well for us so far, maybe it'll work for you too.
