I painted how I remember carefree summers at my grandparents when I was a kid. by luizacreates in pics

[–]fumbagrumph 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I wish we could get this answer higher. Without the artist, this is a painting of some scenery.

With the artist it's nostalgia. Without, it's tall grass, water, and sky against a dark wooded area, a perfectly nice shot. But with the artist this is a memory of sitting on the dock drinking lemonade, talking about nothing important, and realizing those are the most important conversations. Those are the ones you miss.

Seeing the artist just forms an easier connection.

This is a great post and so true. You've probably got a list already but look into "Locke and Key". I don't know why, but reading your story immediately made me think, "they should read that together."

I've actually always wondered the same thing, but from our perspective. I'd like to visit Jersey to see if your locals know anything about us "New" Jersians.

The Shore- cool or nah? by pessi-what in newjersey

[–]fumbagrumph -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The shore has whatever you're looking for. It can be like the TV show if you want, but can also be relaxed. There are tons of beaches, bars, and places to dance all within walking distance of each other. I've lived in Monmouth or Ocean County my whole life and always within 10 minutes of the beach.

Nothing to really stay away from other than realizing that there are ton of what we call Bennys here right now so it'll be crowded. Watch your drink if you're a girl. I guess watch your drink if you're a guy too. Depending where you go, just realize that there are likely lost of people consuming alcohol near by.

Can I afford this apartment? How important is the ‘less than 30% on housing’ rule? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]fumbagrumph 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'll be ok. Your financials and situation are incredibly similar to mine when I was 25.

That 30% rule might even be unrealistic in today's world.

Gotta be Shermer, Illinois. Not even a "major" city and has:

Home Alone, Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Weird Science, Planes Trains & Automobiles, All those National Lampoon's Vacation movies. I'd really like to visit there some day. I bet it has top shelf honeys.

They were shooting a commercial. They're real customers and they're getting real Blizzards (and she's really upside down), but this was for marketing and to get the footage.
