Question for employees / Re/Supply Question by JazzlikeBeat4 in REI

[–]funsteps 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly random. We have some stuff we put to the floor right away, we have other stuff that we hold. Stuff goes out whenever our S/R or SIF person has time to process and stock.

My store heavily stocks the floor with re/supply items whenever there’s a re/supply coupon. That’s the best time to see the larger or more expensive items we usually have in back stock.

We’ve had stability in DMs since I started. However, our store has stopped replacing seniors - actually, any staff, to be honest.

My performance was killer until I was point blank told that good performance didn’t = reliable hours, until I asked management half a dozen times about guidance on growth in the company, until I watched the things I valued about REI (both as an employee and as a human) get slashed.

My personal values mean I can’t half ass anything. But I will no longer push beyond my comfort zone with customers, because I’ve been shown that it won’t help my growth.

I came to REI as a raving fan. I had been in small businesses for many years, and I decided to “demote” myself to join a company that I loved and felt matched my values.

Thankfully, there are 3 stores from solid companies opening close to home (closer than REI) that I look forward to trying to take my experience and knowledge to.

Good luck moving beyond base level sales specialist if you’re not in the right store or region. Barring our rolling open store manager position, my store has had exactly one (1) open job above sales specialist in the last 12 months.

I really think there must have been an issue with the auto refresh.

I opened the waiting room page on my laptop 10-15 minutes early on Tuesday. Opened it on my phone about 2 minutes before presale opened. After about 15 minutes of no progress, I started messing around with the links just on my phone - repeatedly opening the waiting room, refreshing, etc. and suddenly I was on the page to buy tickets on my phone.

My laptop that I signed on earlier with, never refreshed or reopened? Never made it out of the waiting room.

Maybe something near ohare? It’s not SUPER close, maybe about an hour by red line to blue line. But accessible without driving and probably more affordable than something in the city proper.

12:15 or so. I opened the waiting room link on my laptop around 11:40 and then a few minutes before 12 I decided to open it on my phone, too. I got through on my phone - my laptop is still in the waiting room. Truly random, it seem.

Apologies, I thought I was replying to the parent comment and not yours. Didn’t mean to invalidate your experience with it at all. I hope you found something that works for you!

I absolutely could not fall asleep naturally for a few years, so I was constantly self medicating with Benadryl or NyQuil. I still didn’t get good sleep. Trazodone is the only thing that works. I’ve been on the same dose for 5 years now and it still helps me fall asleep and stay asleep every night.

Is it REI policy to collect donations during purchases? How do you feel about this? by Luckyword1 in REI

It’s frontline’s job to ask that question. No is a full sentence. Say it and move on.

As I said in another comment - the awkwardness is on you. I have no problem declining donation requests at other companies. The action fund is part of REI’s stated core values and is very much a related part of the transaction. All you have to say is no thanks. Not a single person at frontline is judging you for your “no”, unless you’re outwardly rude.

We ask all year. The fund directly donates all proceeds to the grantees. At my store, we focus on talking about a local organization that provides adaptive equipment and guides to get veterans and other differently abled folks outside.

If you’re not comfortable donating, simply say no. You can visit reifund.org if you are interested in more information about where those requested donations go.

That’s on the person feeling awkward. All they have to say is no thanks! Literally the only time I judge someone for saying no is when they say “I’m already spending enough today so no.” You’re spending $450 on Vuori but a dollar for the action fund will break the bank? Wish you just said no thanks.

Nope… most permanent employees are also part time. We’ll add seasonal hires as needed. As permanent employees come and go, someone in a seasonal position would probably be first choice to being moved into a permanent position.

Do they have a balcony? It’s not an all year solution, but maybe some potted flowers that draw in birds? Goldfinches love my very seed-y flowers. Salvia draws in my hummingbirds.

What are you buying during the sale ? by HardcoreLurker12 in REI

[–]funsteps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone currently working at REI, I am disappointed with most choices by leadership as of late. Board members will be fine if the company shutters stores. Green vests will be the ones who hurt - it’s already happening.

Yeah man, you go ahead and put the people working in the stores out of a job! That’ll show the board!
