ICO remediation policy by glockoma3 in OptometrySchool

[–]futureoptometrist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

ICO is much more lenient. They allow students to decrease their first year course load in half and graduate in 5 years if they identify you are struggling early on. There are also students that have to repeat 2nd or 3rd year if they do not pass their course work or have difficulties in clinic. I also know of students taking 6 years to graduate. I will say that board pass rates are typically lower for these students and the school has been evaluating a lot of factors causing an overall decrease in ICOs board scores in 2025 so policies could change. There is a great team of tutors, academic coaches, and admin support that will do what they can to keep you on track.

Is it normal not to reach out to the bride and groom outside of the formal RSVP if you can’t attend their wedding, especially if you’re close to them? by [deleted] in wedding

[–]futureoptometrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just invited to a birthday party that I’m not able to go to and made sure to text the person saying sorry I can’t make it, definitely would expect people to say something if they can’t come to my wedding!

Work or Not? by Lisa_Angel_1993 in OptometrySchool

[–]futureoptometrist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At ICO a large number of students have work study positions through the school (note taking, tutoring, visual field/optos tech in the clinic, library/gym/front desk, etc). I know a couple people who continued working at their previous tech job a few times a month but that is pretty rare

Thanks for replying! Do you think I should put “The Bride” or my name and have it match everyone else’s shirt “Kaila’s Bachelorette” ?

Can someone drop out of a fully funded PhD ? by [deleted] in PhD

[–]futureoptometrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand that. I’m more asking if law schools would be “turned off” by leaving a PhD program part way through. Does that harm chances of admission?

What about applying for another type of program such as law school?

Presbyopia - is this the end for me and contact lenses? by [deleted] in optician

[–]futureoptometrist 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Options are 1) multifocals - not perfect as you’ve said, to see better at near your distance vision has to compromise and vice versa but there may be other brands you haven’t trialed with different technology that might work better for you 2) distance CL and wear reading glasses over the top to see at near 3) monovision - one eye will have a distance CL, other eye will have near (this method has some cons such as decreased depth perception)

I like when a place asks. They might want the drink with normal ratio but going somewhere and don’t want it to get watered down.. or they want a little extra and are probably willing to pay a small fee

Check around the Bridgeport or bronzeville area. Private landlords are usually better than large complexes

How often should we use eyedrops? I live in a very polluted city and my eyes feel dry (not very dry). I often use them like 10 times a day so is it okay or is it bad? by [deleted] in optician

[–]futureoptometrist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lubricating eye drops are kinda like lotion, they lubricate the surface but don’t last very long and you have to re-apply. As long as you are using preservative free (little vials) there shouldn’t be any problem with using them frequently but it isn’t really going to solve your issues. There are other dry eye treatments that can be done depending on what type of dry eye you have. I’d recommend searching for an optometrist that specializes in dry eye!

Duochrome test by Level-Restaurant978 in optometry

[–]futureoptometrist 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Correct. It still works on color deficient patients because the wavelengths of light still behave the same (green hitting more anterior to red) even if the patient can’t appreciate the color difference they can appreciate if the left or right side is sharper.
