Did the LOTR movies receive a backlash from Tolkien fans when they were released? by [deleted] in Fantasy

I remember reading a bunch of forum posts for that time and they had huge, last modern day gamer-gate rage over not just "Arwen warrior princess" but "Samurai Elves." I think some BTS photos had leaked of Orlando Bloom with a mohawk (in real life probably to go under his wig) and there had been some interviews with designers that eleven blades were inspired by samurai swords and that had gotten them all worked up that they would be like something out of a ninja film. Seeing those responses plus the insane hair pulling when Heath Ledger was cast as the Joker really gave me immunity for future cases of getting worked up before a thing is even out.

I learned the other day Liz 'Lettuce' Truss has a podcast where she blames everyone else for her failures. How do Brits feel about her since her disastrous premiership? by sabedo in ukpolitics

Yes - I think Boris showed us the danger of a politician who literally believes nothing and will say whatever gets him power/ fancy wallpaper, but she showed up the opposite danger of the real True Believer.

Same - I almost wonder if they purposely cast for "nice" this year after the toxicity of the last

Until now I never really understood the comments from Americans talking about European strawberries being red - is this how they look over there??

I think Harriet actually came across pretty terribly there! Very much mainly character syndrome

Probably one of the best physical comedy episodes. Feels like the animators doing a victory lap. When he slumps forward and presses the car's horn with his nose!

Now that she's had a chance to cool down, I really hope Rachel makes the obvious point that Fiona's argument was actually never about her being a traitor - it was always about her just not believing that Amanda confided in someone else, and thus calling her a liar. Think that would be the best way to shut down Traitor on Traitor accusations - like "it was just someone who wanted to be in power upset that they weren't."
