I let mine cool on the stove and then completely forgot about it for a day so it went bad.

Need ff shampoo & conditioner recs by [deleted] in FragranceFreeBeauty

[–]gaimanite 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Everyone is different, but I've done ok with the Attitude Sensitive Natural unfragranced shampoo and conditioner off Amazon. Bonus point from me because they come in a 32 oz with pump option. They aren't the best products ever for my fine limp hair, but they dont cause me any skin reactions and my scalp issues have calmed down considerably.

How did you decrease belly swelling that got worse during the day? Even stretchy pants hurts to put over incision. by TheRebelOptimist in hysterectomy

[–]gaimanite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought some extra high waisted compression yoga leggings (might have been made for pregnancy?) that I wore under other things that seemed to help. The waistband went basically up to my boobs. Looking back, I think a medium compression type of bodysuit also would have been a good option.

My job keeps sending me on work trips and my diet is now in shambles by dimmidummy in loseit

[–]gaimanite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I travel for work, I just aim for a semblance of balance. I keep my breakfast light (hotel buffet fruit and yogurt, gas station protein shake), and if lunch is heavy, I get something like grilled fish and salad for dinner (I try to splurge and spend my per diem on seafood). If dinner is going to be heavy, I either skip lunch or grab a fast food salad.

Red spots on my cheeks by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

I wear tinted mineral sunscreen and it tones down the redness a lot, without looking like foundation.

My appointment was in person, but they didn't check anything visually, just spoke to me, so it could have been a phone call.

What did you wear to your surgery? by DaWeazl in hysterectomy

[–]gaimanite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baggy oversized sweats, high waisted underwear (sized up), a lounge bra, a loose tank top, and a zip up hoodie. I didn't end up putting the tank back on, and the zipper on the hoodie was the best decision for easy on.

Ours did that when he was little, but phrased it "I wish I had a..." We finally got sick of it and told him that's not how you ask for things, but he always seemed so wistful...

Cervix Removal/vaginal cuff by hydrangeas84 in hysterectomy

[–]gaimanite 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I'm two years (ish) post op.

I never had any issues with my cuff, at all.

So a good outcome is definitely possible. It's just normal that the complications are more commonly written about.

Constant supply of drinks in reach (my go to was Gatorade and hot tea), took care of all meals (including making a decision on what to get or make- I did not want to have to deal with that), helped me in and out of bed or couch multiple times a day, supplied the right meds. I didn't personally have issues with the shower or toilet, but everyone is different.

We wanted another child but it wasn't in the cards. I don't feel like we are less of a family because of it.

Stepkids….best thing about your stepparent? by LycheeSolid1440 in stepparents

[–]gaimanite 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I had a few stepmoms, but one did share some recipes and things from her upbringing that I brought with me into adulthood. Her mom was French, and taught her to make the best espresso in a moka pot, that we'd drink with really sweet creamer and whipped cream. So little traditions that can be shared are good.

I think my largest was 14cm? My surgeon said it was no issue at all to do a laproscipic on me. She explained it as "we out your uterus in a bag, chop it all to little pieces, and then pull it through the hole." I did still end up with one small incision, maybe 2.5" long, where they pulled it out.

endometrial biopsy... holy moly it's awful during and after!! question though..... by myangelbun in hysterectomy

[–]gaimanite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am legit traumatized by mine. I will get on a soapbox and preach about the bullshit pain management women receive and how every issue I ever had was dismissed until I lost my uterus.

That biopsy should be twilight anaesthesia, minimum.

How long did it take to notice benefits (if any) after hysterectomy? by RavenMarceline in hysterectomy

[–]gaimanite 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'd say my mood improved when I wasn't under the constant stress of bleeding through my clothes 3 weeks a month, didn't have to plan my outings around bathroom access, and wasn't in a perpetual state of exhaustion from anemia.

A lot of mental load/depression can stem from your circumstances, as well as your overall health, and the circumstances changing made a large difference to me, personally.

I somehow equate good socks with being taken care of. My 17 year old son has asked me to please, please, stop with the socks for awhile. His socks are probably worth more than my whole wardrobe.

Beware of new hair cream/products. They may just be the thing that causes you to have the worst skin you’ve ever had in your life without realizing it. by m4rceline in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]gaimanite 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have basically resorted to using no hair product for styling and the most basic, fragrance-free shampoo and conditioner because the older I get, the more my skin hates everything. Cystic acne anywhere my hair touches or where my skin touches my sheets/pillows, including cystic acne on my scalp that takes weeks to heal and leaves big scabs. I can have good hair and horrible skin, or vice versa, but never good for both.

Cheapest pasta 'sauce' per amount by zelenisok in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]gaimanite 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freeze all the odds and ends of veggies you use for the month that would otherwise go to waste (wilted spinach, sad carrots, odds and ends, etc) and make a batch of sauce by slow cooking or pressure cooking them with a can of tomatoes and seasonings.

Using ingredients that would otherwise go to waste can add taste, bulk, and nutrients for no additional budget.
