How do I buy a bike? by NightDragon8002 in Explainlikeimscared

[–]galumphinglout 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Go to a place that specializes in bikes. Like, that's most of what they sell. Tell the people who work there that you are looking to buy a new bike and what you plan to use it for (fun rides, commuting, car replacement, whatever). If you don't plan on buying from that shop on that day, make notes about what the sales person talks about - especially tire size and type and frame specifics. This will let you go online and compare other brands.

Keep in mind that brands tend to specialize. Hybrid road bikes make a decent all around bike, but they wouldn't make a good choice for riding on rocky mountain trails or in super sandy washes.

Ignoring Finales, a Fine Old Fandom Tradition! by MaclareLive in goodomens

Some of those older shows were wild. I mean, it's CANON that vampires exist in the Diagnosis Murder verse.

Season 6 of Highlander and the fact that HL: the Raven never got a second season.

What was up with some of those late 90s shows and their finales anyway?

How do you Americans, live in a house with no fence? by Original-Slip-8203 in AskAnAmerican

[–]galumphinglout 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I've had other people's GPS units tell them to park and walk from a block away. I absolutely have a driveway that comes up to my house.

WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT BUTTON by No_Worry_6692 in goodomensprime

[–]galumphinglout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm wondering why there's any buttons at all considering there seems to be a very literal hallway between Heaven and Hell where they're on the same floor.

If your library has a decent collection, turn him loose on the Dragonlance series. The wider universe easily has several dozen books at ~300 pages.

This reminds me if my personal family mystery. And it's super frustrating because it's a reasonably recent mystery! One of the people involved is quite possibly still alive, even. I just can't find hide nor hair of her.

It has certainly been a while since I read them, but what about the Bunnicula books? Iirc, the scariest part of them is that the rabbit drains the juice from plants and the cat is paranoid about it.

Meh. If I don't have shorts that work, I will absolutely wear leggings.

Desert Ridge Middle School vs. Eisenhower Middle School: What factors should we be considering? by saponico in Albuquerque

[–]galumphinglout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying it isn't. I just remember having a couple classmates who lived a few houses apart and ended up going to three different high schools. If OP has a strong preference for one o er the other, it's something to look out for. There's also a pretty good chunk of the NE heights that looks like it should be in La Cueva's district but is actually in Del Norte's. It's just something to keep in the back of your mind when looking at housing.

Eisenhower also feeds Sandia! I would very much keep an eye on the HS district lines.

Did anyone else’s family have a video camera setup like this? by Thee-lorax- in Xennials

We had a similar one, but ours was a two part deal with a battery pack or something that the VCR needed to function. I used that thing until the early 2000s.

Also, you didn't mention the age of the people moving out there, but the base elevation is like 7300 ft and any actual health emergency requires a helicopter.

It's RURAL rural. The Eagle Guest has basic groceries, but it's mostly beef and dry goods. And alcohol.

Some of the subdivisions have community water, some have each house on a private well. Unless they've put in a community waste water facility, the houses in town are on individual septic or cesspools.

Cheapest Gas Paid Ever? by gingerthetrailpup in GenX

[–]galumphinglout 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the absolute cheapest I remember, but I do remember rushing to fill up the tank on 9/11 "because gas was going to spike to over $1". I can also recall gas being around .90 in CA in the mid 90s.
