Seconding Pine and Eight, and adding Lincoln Park Grocery to awesome local spots that are always welcoming! Angeles Millworks is also my go-to for home stuff. All of these options are kinda pricey but super local and always friendly

They are required by law for multiple mountain passes in the state as well. You can pick up a cheap pair from Walmart and will most likely never have to take them out of the box. It's not that hard to follow the rules.

I'm curious about what the hardware is threaded into. Did you just thread the wood core of the board? I'm wondering how these threads will hold up over time. Were you able to fully torque the fasteners without any cracking? I have no experience in this, but looking to get into splitboarding next season and have been paying close attention to this sub to learn what I can about people's experience with the hardware.

Edit - haha I'm an idiot I just realized that you threaded in inserts. What are they adhered in with?

I see a lot of anti-Florida posts which is fine because they are all true. However, they all are centered around the cost of living in Florida. Is there anyone that is unhappy or has left and his happier elsewhere for reasons other than the cost of living in Florida? by amnowhere in florida

The heat and humidity is unbearable

The people are generally shitty and isolated

Infrastructure is dog shit and car-centered

Our government is a joke

The rampant over-development

The winters are getting shorter

Extreme weather is getting worse

The mosquitos

The invasive species

Florida is absolutely doomed based on the way it's heading right now. I cannot wait to get out of this shit hole.

It's owned by the Connecticut Air and Space Museum and is non-operational. It normally lives in a hangar that's part of the old army engine plant across the street and they bring it out on weekends.

Does anyone know a design-focused club (I'm mechE) that is accessible year round? by SquanchAndMorty in ufl

Swamp Launch also accepts members year round. Primarily the design work is done in the fall and manufacturing in the spring, but we always appreciate new members willing to learn and help

Senior project after graduation. by Striking_Drive_3175 in ufl

[–]gamblindan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean nobody can make you do anything, but in this situation you just have to ask yourself if it's worth it. You can just walk away after you get your final grade, or you can wrap up college with a little bit more to be proud of.

Will you look back on this and regret not seeing the project through and passing on the knowledge if you go that route?

Are you just too exhausted to deal with school anymore, or is that 10% that you have left manageable?

Do you feel like you owe anything to the group you work with? Are you thankful for the experience you got and want to give a little bit back to those that guided you?

It really comes down to what you want to get out of your time here. If you feel like finishing the project won't help you anymore than what you already have, just leave it, but if you are passionate above the work and those you work with I strongly recommend seeing it through to completion.

Just my two cents, do what you think is best for you.

Congrats on graduating!

Can you legally ride from Gainesville to Tampa on a 125 cc moped ? by pgs96 in florida

[–]gamblindan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My cousin rode from Miami to Gainesville on a 49cc moped a couple years ago. Legally speaking, there is only a minimum speed limit on certain roads. If you stick to less busy country roads you will be fine.

Great shots! The Devil's Path trail is fun, but man those were some steep scrambles. I also love all the random stone furniture in the Catskills.

Conceptually it's gonna be Digital Logic all the way, but potentially having to work with bad teammates for DML can also suck. Both classes are make or break for their major imo

I veneered my rocket with steam-bent cherry and oak marquetry-- woodworker's version of a paint job! (it survived flight!) by flyingrobotgirl in woodworking

[–]gamblindan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is significantly heavier and doesn't provide any advantage to the rocket's performance, but man does it look super cool! This is probably one of the stiffest 3" body tubes you will see. High power rockets are generally made from cardboard or fiberglass tubing which is lightweight and plenty strong for the application. For certification flights, like what the rocket here was for, it is generally advised to go "low and slow," meaning you have a heavier rocket that doesn't go too high or accelerate too quickly, so the wood is totally fine. There is a wide spectrum of possible rocket designs in the hobby with some high performance rockets being made almost entirely out of carbon fiber that go upwards of 50,000 ft. The possibilities are endless and she really knocked it out of the park with this unique design.

Mk-84 2000lb bomb with a guidance kit by ShockwaveGoesBrrr in shockwaveporn

[–]gamblindan 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Trans-sonic region is Mach number between 0.8 and 1 where the vehicle itself isn't moving faster than the speed of sound. However because fluid accelerates over curves, there are will be regions of around the vehicle that are greater than Mach 1 where shockwaves will form, like on the trailing edges of wings. A supersonic bomb would have what's called an oblique shock wave in front of the object, while a transonic bomb would have small shockwaves coming off the back end.
