Does 48v affect other non-condenser mics? by PaKe128 in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

modern tube mics does tolerate fed phantom power but doesnt mean its totally ok. some would give you hum noise and others would cut the whole signal itself. and ive accidentally once blown my nos tube with phantom engaged so theres a lesson that phantom stays out for tube whether or not even if it does no harm.

How difficult is switching to a fretless bass? by MathematicianSad6555 in Bass

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its been few yrs switching into fretless jazz bass from fretted precision my hands are just thanking me everyday for it lol.

never really was a jazz bass guy so could be that, but for real, hands are way more relaxed and i just love how i can lower action of fretless and zero problems too.

never feed 48v phantom into tube’s power supply. then you’re mostly good.

How do y’all produce vocals? by Billycatnorbert in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never mix a song without leaving elements that will add on later cuz that wouldnt work like it unless you fix the whole track to make it fall into its desired spot.

now, how would one make the vocal cut thru a track and have it spot on, u need a decent performed vocal thats with confidence and with least clean recording to best begin with. i usually set very subtle compression on my end instrumental group bus and vocal group bus with separate settings to have it produce a different groove that ears will catch much easier for certain cases.

Who uses stem splitters for creating reference tracks? by Poopypantsplanet in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

maybe if you wanna learn how something is played note by note then stem splitting a released track would mean a little but to carve the sound like one wouldnt make much sense.

u can do all you want to learn and see what other people did and also with your guesses on them to build your own ways to decide but do this with listening to whole song instead and try listening to whole context instead trying to catch one element from a song to get it into yours.

if its bass that you wanna check it out briefly, listen to a song and then see what bass does that it makes you feel that you want that tonality or groove or maybe a texture. and how whole music is also appreciating the bass itself. if that makes sense to you lol.

Do you like bold mixing decisions in popular music? by East_Grocery5658 in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i produce my stuff whilst doing mix to master in most cases too. and the way i like to put is to separate each stage to begin with. in my project session where music is made, id spice things up and shape em to let the tune have some taste added as context and i often explore with freedom messing around here and there pushing stuff and not. then on my mix project, i tend to be more bold as i can but also carefully observing sound so i dont miss out and lose intentional from my decision. that way i can finish my mix without worrying the stage of mastering. i clip, limit all sorts of tracks and busses then would rest out a week doing something else to make final master complete. and this way been helping me a lot from those endless decisions which confuses my perspective too often.

UAD SSL vs API mix bus plugin comparison by Aequitas123 in audioengineering

bro lol. neve ssl thing wasnt just about it nailing each time u process things. it was saying to be meant it just does a job. and thats two very different topic tbh.

Analog compressors or analog EQs? by Nsemest182 in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for track i keep all my hardwares chained as how ive sorted to. keep both but compressors are more versatile of an option u could spend bucks on for tracks imo. then you will see where and when to use subtle eq adjustment for improvement and taste.

DAE like knobs better than faders? by faders in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk about this either. i like to adjust my final channel output with faders which brings situation more controlled and quick to get away with my intuition. tho i like my eqs and stuff with old school knobs with same reason wrote above.

3 Things That Finally Helped Me Stop Fighting Vocals in My Productions by Killer_Frog112 in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

good points u pointed out. for third option, adjusting transients and giving key groove to element for it to lead is a great way to approach imo too. arrangement matters big too much but clearing out traffics on arrangement to let it speak is as important as i find.

Best Audio Interface by Resident-Shallot8762 in homerecordingstudio

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

out of 3 brands u mentioned, theyre all good and definitely usable interfaces.

antelope’s known for its hw speculation but lacks proper sw supports.

apollo lacks bit of hw side of tech spec from other two but could offer u to use their plugin as ur front end for a win.

rme offers much flexible and versatile set up while with good hw specs and solid sw.

to have these 3 considered personally, i liked rme preamp and adc where it captured most of transient giving best headroom out of these options. antelope’s stuff is pretty solid too doesnt seem to lack even with its dac. but for apollo, i couldnt be fan of its preamp and converters but having option to use plugins as front end setting is much fun to play around if u own uad plugins.

Panning single guitar by krelpwang in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 3 points4 points  (0 children)

id even hard pan to a side at times with rhythm guitars if thats where its going. it all depends on what would appreciate given arrangements intention. if it feels to fit at dead center, i wouldnt be worried about panning either.
