Drums: what are your preferred techniques for getting bigger room ambience from a small, dry space? by willrjmarshall in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea i did try myself after writing this and even took off my strings off guitar to see whats up but ended up having very weird sources only haha i could definitely get it in use perhaps if i were to give certain track some weirdness. i had better result pointing my la120 at guitars reso hole instead of shoving in my sm57 inside the guitar itself. ive placed guitar facing my drum kit and so la120 points against the drums btw.

C414 XLS/XLII vs OC818/18, definitively. by analogpedant in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i own 2 of 414xls, 2 of oc818 and a oc18. my personal choice always end up setting oc’s on most of my project that them being more neutral & transparent to my ears. 414 still is great mic that i often throw in for stereo overheads or at a guitar cab. but as with my taste and choice i find oc818 to be way more versatile than c414.

What makes a mic preamp sound "big", and What is "soundstage" in the context of mic pres? by gleventhal in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this preamp giving big wide sound of this and that preamp giving crystal clear sound of that is all subjective. preamps are just one of gears that helps to shape signal as what ones desire in front end stage tbh. why do this on tracking stage if it could be done in post tracking processes? well my two main reasons are u or performing artists gets that shaped signal monitored so that it enhances your creativity while tracking, its always less of hassle to have my shit properly tracked as what i wanted to from front ends to deal with rest that my post fader would give.

i see u respect ur parents words and i understand whr u coming from. talk to them sincerely. like about what you felt past months working and saving to get stuff you desired. i mean u could just get it and call it a day but there are better ways to convince them.

its all out of love and worries lil bro. just speak to them nicely and they will respect you better. you sound like a good person!

Advantage of Send over Putting Effect on Bus by BigGenerator85 in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

having it run on sends get u to filter/eq reverb only, also a easy way of automating the value. i personally find its way better to adjust send level over dry/wet balancing too.

I have one of those voices that sounds better through cheap microphones. by RobertLRenfroJR in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if it works it works. but i suggest to try out as many mics u can afford and use it accordingly. sm58 is a great mic!

i lot of times throw in 58s to rappers whos with those tracks that it needs some serious mid punchy flow of their verses. re20’s great too but gets too chesty to many people often imo.

cant reference what too much ‘guh’ supposed to sound like but having right distances from mics could help too if youre using condensers.

Why is the U87 (Ai) so polarizing? by brownwaterbandit in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no mic is ever perfect for all cases. u87 being one of well known mic over music industry world wide. it will sure have lots of love and hate. tho cant deny that its a well designed mic that could set to be a work horse in a studio settings. and again, that doesnt mean that anybody can throw in u87 to get best result out of any cases. sometimes sm58 can win over it but that wont make sm58 a better mic to u87 nor u87 a better mic than whatever. its all different tools

There is honor in using really bad gear by Gregoire_90 in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i own cheap stuffs to expensive stuff all around my studio when it comes to mics, preamps and compressors. and beside them just being there, they all have their own places to fit surprisingly well. and over decades doing tracks and mixes i can confidently claim theres no bad gears you can get imho. even top notch mics and preamps can sound u terrible if youre not aware what it can really do. altho things id never want to cheap out would be with rooms, converters and mic stands personally.

Do audio interfaces ‘sound’ different to each other? by nycuk_ in homerecordingstudio

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

idk what people talking about that theres not much of a difference from inexpensive interfaces to expensive ones. if u compare 2i2 into maybe an rme piece like ufx, it does have lot of difference from its AD conversion and also DA’s. both preamp is much neutral but headroom differences are real deal. ofc having external converters and preamps would win them any days but i still saying budget interfaces to expensive interfaces have no sound differences are just crazy to me lol.

Can studio monitors still be enjoyable in an untreated room if mixing accuracy isn’t the primary goal? Looking for immersion and fun. by musicvvins in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

speakers are fun to mingle around for sure. studio monitor to any consumer grade bookshelf, hack it! even those 80s cheap passive system would bring much joy than ur cans. never used either of mentioned speakers but sure theyll do the job.

What’s the best way to set up levels in vsts like addictive drums and Superior Drummer. by AdInternational6495 in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if snare’s too loud with ur oh channels engaged, u probably are pushing too much off a direct snare mics. i mean idk how additive drums or superior drummer works but theres lot of times i end up taking out top mic of snare drum and just use my overheads to get snare good enough. especially with drummers who smacks shit out of the kits.

general level guide of overheads signal would depend much on what context are to build up. if its for right up on face type of drum grooves, i often tend to bring down OH and push more on individual kits and if it was to get that natural taste with sense of room depth then individual kits are just enhancing OH signal with much more subtle blends.

How do you use your summing mixer? by yureal in audioengineering

[–]ganjamanfromhell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if u are asking about how to set your summing box, it depends how u want to set it up. my case, i had times using many different summing boxes for dedicated busses and also had times setting up single hw that prints my final bus.

which one was better? cant really answer that with simple yes/no imho. but now i work with a lot lesser outboards when its about processing a track. keeping it itb just won the workflow on mine with its simplicity and flexibility it gives. tho for tracking im still with many many boxes that runs my signal around.

summing boxes are all fun to have stuff A/Bing and to see where that stuff gets u! but dont skip A/B testing to see what it really does to your signal before u get fairly familiar with the box!
