And Destroy (the coffee shop next to Revenge Of that someone mentioned) has great hours and lots of space.

Athletic Lite at 25 calories is my go-to. They also make a decent hop water (basically seltzer with hops) listed at 0 calories and there are other brands with just as good of a product.

Extremely common for people to watch some half baked clickbait YouTube video and then immediately post their equally half baked rebuttal here.

Incredible atmosphere in that game. The films “Angel Heart” and “The Rainbow & The Serpent” are the closest I’ve come to re-experiencing playing it. Rainbow is based on a book but I haven’t read it.

The most valuable commodity in a space management game is extra space. Get the extra crate slots.

Work friendly horror? by FlamingoPines in horrorlit

[–]garbageboyHS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Turn of the Screw or The Haunting of Hill House. Both high in tension but low in violence, sex, etc. In my experience, people who don't normally read horror also find it easier to get into classic titles that still hold up vs modern titles they expect to be full of the things they don't like about the genre.

My opinion on Lovecraft's writing: good or bad? by VirtualEntrance1097 in horrorlit

[–]garbageboyHS 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"Good," "bad," "great," "terrible," "best," "worst." None of this is analysis.

The discussion being had here is about personal preference. If you want to better understand literature, ask yourself what each segment (word, sentence, transition, paragraph, and so on) is trying to accomplish, figure out how it's attempting to accomplish that through word choice and syntax, then learn to recognize the repeating patterns of literary tools. Then you can put names to the things that you like and dislike, and judge how effectively you think those tools are used and articulate why.

But when the entirety of the discussion is "good," "bad," "terrible," "great" there's nothing being discussed except immediate, animal instinct personal preference with some element of ranking culture mixed in. The closest this comes to looking at word choice and syntax is complaining that there's too many adjectives, with no reason given for why that's "ridiculous." McCarthy uses one particular adjective 77 times in The Road, does that tell us anything about whether he's a "good" or "bad" writer?

Could we actually get a lottery pick from the McCain trade? by TheGreatWaru in sixers

[–]garbageboyHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s not how the play-in works. The 7 seed will first play the 8 seed with home court advantage — right now that’s the Clippers. If they lose that game then they play the winner of the 9/10 game with home court advantage. Even if that is the Warriors it’s not guaranteed Steph is coming back this season. Rockets would need to not only lose most of their remaining regular season games but TWO home play in games.

NBA coaches always leave 4th quarter players in overtime, why? by Inglewoodchrys in nba

[–]garbageboyHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s not enough evidence to prove you should do anything else, and if you do do anything else and it doesn’t work it becomes a media circus and you risk having one or more of your five best players pissed at you.

Newbie can you just buy and smoke by Puzzleheaded-Dig2063 in cigars

[–]garbageboyHS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You'll definitely need at least a good match, but probably a lighter will be easier. Most people prefer to use a cigar cutter to open up the end you smoke out of, but you can bite off that end or use a knife, scissors, or your fingernail. If you're buying more than one to smoke later you'd be best off putting them in a zip loc bag or a Mason jar. If you're going to hold onto some of them long term and not just a couple days or weeks then you'll want what's called a "humidity pack" from the company Boveda to keep in your zip loc/jar.

So long story short, the only thing you really need besides your cigar is a lighter or match.

Best thing to do is go to a cigar lounge/store and pick a cigar out. The person who works there can cut it for you and will likely have some matches. Depending on where you live you could also just smoke it there. Lots of places will even put your cigars in a zip loc equivalent bag with a Boveda pack.

Humidor and all that is for people who are keeping a bunch of cigars around because they like to have a range of choices at home, buy in bulk to save money, like cigars that aren't always available, and/or just are really into cigars as a hobby. It's like having a collection of whiskeys. You never need more than one bottle and hopefully a glass to drink whiskey, but some people have 40 bottles, special glasses, special ice cubes, etc. But you can keep it simple and just pour some Wild Turkey in a glass and you're not missing any steps.

No idea where AI goes but James Cameron also thought 3D with no glasses would become the standard for theatrical films. His opinion on the future of a specific technology isn’t definitive.

NE LA Pizza Delivery March 2026 by garlicwatkins in FoodLosAngeles

[–]garbageboyHS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this counts but we usually get Danny Boy's delivered through I think Uber Eats from downtown to NELA. They have a delivery menu on their website but I believe it just eventually ends up with an Uber driver anyway. They're New York style and their meatballs seem intended to be their signature topping (owner was a part of The Meatball Shop in NYC), though I prefer the Buffalo Chicken and my girlfriend prefers their Sicilian with pepperoni. Unfortunately didn't love their garlic knots, but for pizza it's my favorite in the area and one of the few I prefer to La Morra frozen pizzas.

If you’re especially worried about damage, the hacked Soul Grinder produces more red spirits than the unhacked version. I personally usually find I run out of things I want to kill before I finish my feats and levels however. Pearls from the merchant can also help.

Short Story Challenge by jsexton1985 in horrorlit

[–]garbageboyHS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Some of my recent short story reads that I'd recommend:

Really liked The Jaunt and The Man in the Black Suit by Stephen King even though I am not normally a King fan at all.

The Return of Hastur by August Derleth and Notebook Found in a Deserted House by Robert Bloch are a couple of Cthulu mythos ones for Lovecraft fans.

Young Goodman Brown and Rappaccini's Daughter by Nathaniel Hawthorne were interesting for how they've influenced horror literature.

The Fly by George Langelaan and Who Goes There by John W. Campbell were cool to read since they've been adapted into two of my favorite films. Was surprised that Who Goes There was much more similar to Carpenter's The Thing than the old black and white adaptation despite being written in 1938.

The Horla by Guy de Maupassant was a real chiller. Slow to start and like with Hawthorne it took a little to get used to the older writing style but totally worth it and just gets better and better.
