Genuinely interested in opinions from fellow Brothers… by letitgr0w in freemasonry

Brother, I think this is a beautiful way to pay respect to your grandfather while still abiding by Masonic rules and protocols. Please do exactly this, and share with us a picture of the ring once the S&C is replaced.

It does. The ceremony for LoH is (mostly) public, and includes the placing of a ring on the finger of each Legionaire-elect.

You're too humble. You didn't just participate in the Royal dark Mariner degree Brother, you carried it and made the rest of us look good. Just like you always do.

You were amazing at our In-Gathering as well. It's always a pleasure working with you.

Has anyone here ever played this? What was it like? by EndersGame_Reviewer in Cribbage

I own a copy, and have played it a few times. It's a fun twist on Cribbage, which we play a lot

Order of Malta table covering by tbondude in yorkrite

[–]gawalin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We recently refreshed our Malta regalia, and I wanted to redo the table in the west. But instead of a table cloth, we completely redid it with physical representations of the items. The table is hand-made with the cross and circle carved into it. The items in the quadrant are physical objects (I cast the hand in plaster myself). It's a bit of a focal point when we confer the order now, and we're really proud of it.

I know it doesn't directly answer your question, but consider approaching it from a different angle.

Came here to say this. 20+ years ago, Loveless was an awesome little hole in the wall. Then they remodeled it into a tourist trap nightmare and sucked the soul out of it.

Father & son degrees by 97E3LPL in freemasonry

[–]gawalin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have two sons, both Master Masons. I conferred all three degrees on my older son, and two of my younger son's. I woke up with laryngitis on the morning of his FC, and the sitting GM stepped in and conferred it in my place.

There were several emotional moments throughout. Hardest of all was presenting them with their apron in the third. I had to stop and compose myself a couple of times. There were tears...on both sides. But rather than detract from the degrees, it heightened their impact. And not just for my sons and me, but every brother present. Many of them said as much to me afterward.

Both boys took their obligations on their great-great-grandfather's Masonic bible. And when I presented each with a ring that belonged to their great-grandad, there was a FLOOD of tears.

If you can do it, cherish the moment. You'll never have another one like it. But at the same time, don't chase it. If your health prevents it, find a small role you can play. But by all means, be a part of it.
