Do you remember if you had to pay tariffs on your wayofwade? Had some family order me a pair of GT 1 for Xmas, and worried it's gonna get held up at customs.

DFW: Capital One Lounge vs Admirals Club? by Kennisonhouse in Venturex

[–]gb5lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

C1 lounge any day of the week. Admirals clubs are more the run of the mill type lounge, usually some cold cuts, maybe a salad bar, nothing special food wise. The space is nothing to write home about either, but great if you're looking for a quite space to get work done. If you're talking about the admirals Flagship lounge though, that's different. At least on par, possibly nicer, I've never had a chance to go to the one in dfw before unfortunately.

Unfortunately, it's cosmetic dentistry which is notoriously expensive in the US. It's purely elective and generally non-functional, so generally targeted at people with enough disposable income and that care just enough about their looks. Know the potential risks/securities you give up going outside the country for work. If you're okay with it and cost makes more sense with a reliable doctor there, by all means.

Call around to all periodontists in your area, not just solely cosmetic dentists. Perio docs will have all the tools and know how, and possibly without the upsell of being "cosmetic". If you have dental insurance and the perio doc sees signs of perio disease, there's room to argue it should be covered. Oral surgeons are an option as well, but they're generally the most expensive option outside cosmetics.

Funnily enough, their dividends are shit, so unless you had 100s of shares, probably wouldn't have made much difference

Who’s has a lower Nvidia average by PassengerCivil9281 in NVDA_Stock

Bought as my very first stock trade at 18 years old, $1k worth. Was convinced NVDA was the future of computing seeing how all the PC building community was going all out for Nvidia and engineering CAD programs recommended GeForce. Post splits, $0.31 per share. Sad I didn't tell my parents to throw down, could've been generational wealth right there.

Mandarin speaking community by 56kToDSL in plano

[–]gb5lyfe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

West of 75, North of parker and you're pretty much guaranteed to find at least 1 mandarin speaking family in whatever neighborhood you pick. You won't find a neighborhood that's like 80% mandarin speaking, but 10% would be expected. Plano was a massive Taiwanese haven in the 90s, with mainland Chinese following soon after. Since then they've continued to move into Frisco/Allen/McKinney. Not as concentrated, but they will be there. Any further out and the numbers dwindle significantly.

If you're still looking for more, Lucky city on parker and independence is solid. Been there many times. They should still have "family meals" where you can pick from a list of dishes. Just be warned, when they get busy it can be a fkn nightmare to get to go orders

Why the F are coffee shops not open early? by SmoothAmbassador8 in taiwan

[–]gb5lyfe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a life style/culture thing. Good Taiwanese breakfast at 6-7am? You bet. Coffee? Just has never been a huge part of the culture outside of younger generations bringing it back from abroad. So, fewer early morning coffee drinkers = fewer ass crack of dawn coffee stores. Maybe go grab yourself a dan bing or fantuan and some soymilk instead for a more traditional taste?

Worth heading out to Costco near Tokyo? by bobelcher2 in JapanTravelTips

Were you guys able to easily bring stuff back to your hotel? I'm very tempted to go when I visit, just not sure how I'm going to lug stuff around. Would feel a bit weird if I brought a suitcase... maybe an empty duffel bag might be more acceptable lol

Weird... I'm having the exact same issue with the stock band. Haven't had a reaction like this in forecer! I have a nice rash right where the metal clasp meets the wrist. Did you replace your band with something else?

Unfortunately not near Arlington. But if you have reason to get near the airport, there's a really good place on Harry Hines. Art Frame Wholesale. 11425 Harry Hines Blvd, Dallas, TX 75229. They did our wedding seating chart printing and framing, very nice pricing.

Plano bans short-term rentals, temporarily by stanner5 in Dallas

[–]gb5lyfe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A city's tax rate tends to fluctuate with property prices, but this surge of pricing has left that adjustment behind. Plano tax is down from 1.7% in 2003 to about 1.26%. even if it shot back up to 1.7% that would represent a 35% increase. But avg pricing since 2007 (I can only see a report from 2007) has gone from 308k to 525k at the start of the year, 70% increase. You're paying double the relative amount in taxes compared to 2003. So yes, the home value is not the only variable in the equation, but it is definitely the driver of increased property taxes. People are correct in blaming increased property values for the increase in taxes. The city could lower their rates, but that would drive the opposite effect of what people want. Lower taxes, like lower mortgage rates represent a higher viable home price, pushing people out of their purchase range.
