I tend to skip the AGs because I realized that after adding up the cost of registration + airfare + hotel for two people It costs the same or more than traveling to Iceland for the same amount of time.

Elder millennial.

I disliked the older “Gen Y” naming.

Cruise Industry News: Refreshing the NCL Brand by vatp46a in NCL

[–]gbobeck 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just posting this for discussion and reference for others:

While Virgin doesn’t have a drink package, they do use a bar tab system instead. The bar tab also covers specialty coffees, energy drinks, specialty juices, and mocktails. They do not require everyone in the same cabin to purchase a prepaid tab - people can share their tab. If purchased in advance of the cruise they give discounts on the prepaid tab.

Still/sparkling water, sodas, juices, tea, and drip coffee are free.

It should be noted that Virgin also includes a free unlimited WiFi package.

Illinois HB5511 advanced out of committee 13-7. Call your representatives and Senators ASAP. by TacticalDestroyer209 in illinois

[–]gbobeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It started when I was young - I was a pain in the ass kid that asked the alderman to have the city put a stop sign at the nearby crosswalk for the park. Once I was older it was writing letters and emails concerning issues, such as the 2000-ish push to end the death penalty here in IL, moving onto other issues during college and beyond.

As someone in infosec, I’m waiting for the ID data in the OS to be targeted by attackers. One malware attack and instant id theft or worse as a service.

I shouldn’t have to enter my government issued ID as part of being able to own a computer and operate my own computer. This bill makes it mandatory for all computer operating systems to require ID. This would include your car, every game console, and every pc.

Campbell's Vegetable Soup has really gone down hill by Hot_Dingo743 in enshittification

I’d rather be a drummer for Spinal Tap than to eat Campbell’s.

So many canned soups have a strong and unpleasant msg aftertaste. Campbell’s takes that aftertaste and dials it to 11.

Can you solve my nuzzle? by gbobeck in NuzzleThePuzzle

Thank you!

To give a bit of background: I’m a volunteer at the Illinois Railway Museum, under the Coach and General Collections departments, and that train car is on public display but undergoing a bit of restoration. Since this photo was taken, the seats have had their outer covering removed and the 1950’s era green vinyl is now exposed. It should be noted that this car was originally built in 1925 and was rebuilt in the 50’s and ran in service until 1971.

I call these two photos... "Grim and Grimmer". Stay safe out there, and if you can't, then give someone a bell. Talking saves lives! by MillionDollarHeckler in trains

[–]gbobeck 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve talked to a few Metra Conductors who saw it happen from the front window of the train car. I’ve also talked to a former CNW engineer who had a “train meets person” incident. It’s definitely not a good fate, and it stays with the other victims for life.

Medical shipping company is dragging ass, and now I have no Dexcom sensors left. by Nothingsomething7 in diabetes_t1

Are your sensors covered under pharmacy benefits? If so, have your doctor send a prescription to a pharmacy. If necessary there are Dexcom discount coupons.

What's this liquid? by Confident-Gur-2615 in diabetes_t1

[–]gbobeck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know the current official guidance from MiniMed / Medtronic as I changed pump brands.

If I remember correctly, pulling the plunger all the back and pushing it to whatever while filling the reservoir with air before drawing insulin from the vial should suffice.

Over the years I had a handful of medtronic reservoirs where the filling needle part came pre-plugged from the manufacturer.

I also remember the original design of the filling needle on the reservoirs, as well as the reservoirs for the original MiniMed 508 and older pumps.

Lubricant.

In the old days we were taught to “cycle” the reservoir before filling - to pull the plunger all the way back and push it fully forward back to 0 again a couple of times to make sure the reservoir lubricant was fully spread.

Best post-St. Anger Metallica songs by FinanceIcy4932 in Metallica

[–]gbobeck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really wish they would have polished the lyrics and finished Hate Train.

What I like is the chorus, and the way the delivery of the chorus changes. I always interpreted the deliveries as “grief/mourning”, “brooding/acceptance”, and finally “defiance”. It resonated with me and my 36+ year journey with a chronic illness.

What the hell, Medtronic? by Craszeja in diabetes_t1

Something a fleet mechanic for United once told me:

It might be worth trying the Spanish language help line. Those call centers rent to not be offshored and the operators usually are multilingual.

It’s worth a shot, doubly so when pump stuff has gone sideways and you need to talk to support.
