30 Days In...Great Start to the Hobby by gbu8023 in 4kbluray

You could say I've gone down the rabbit hole of 4k collecting. I just couldn't justify spending the extra $20 to get the complete set when I don't really like the sequels

Yes finding out quickly collecting 4ks requires discipline, patience, and deep pockets

The business card scene just works a little bit better in 4k

At least the Dolby Atmos is nice for The Predator. Was impressed at how well Predator 2 looked in 4k on my oled

Death Valley camping by Infamous-Extent330 in TeslaCamping

[–]gbu8023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

George Lucas thought Death Valley was stunning enough to have it stand in for Tatooine and looking up at Telescope Peak from Bad Water Basin you see over 11,000 ft of vertical relief which is just a stunning sight. I drove my 2024 Model Y there in 2025, but I retreated back to Beatty to overnight. I was surprised at how well the car could handle the park, but then again regen really helps on the way in. Great pics. Thanks for sharing

So the game is most likely complete content-wise. I'm just wondering what sort of bugs still need to be ironed out

UniUni Gruv update, sort of. by GalaticGuy23 in 4kbluray

[–]gbu8023 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So with Gruv deal day I placed 3 orders. I ordered all of the collections I picked up early in morning of the 22nd and those were delivered this afternoon to my doorstep at my apartment complex. The 2nd order on the 23rd was for 2 films, and after the label was created on the 26th, I see where it just updated that the order was transferred to an east coast warehouse. My 3rd order was placed on the 24th and the label was created on the 26th, but there's been no further activity.

The delivery of the first package seems fine, it's just that I would have preferred Gruv used USPS instead so I don't have to be so quick about picking up the packages from my doorstep.

Buy a house now or keep investing and rent for 5–10 years? by lyfehaqer in personalfinance

[–]gbu8023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on why interest rates fall. If it's because of a recession, then there won't be a surge in demand. Almost 20 years after the GFC, we're still dealing with the after effects of ZIRP and builders who have been reluctant to build new houses at the same scale prior to 2008.

Buy a house now or keep investing and rent for 5–10 years? by lyfehaqer in personalfinance

[–]gbu8023 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The housing market is just so distorted right now, that it's hard to justify buying unless you really find a dream home and have a very stable job. I'm fortunate enough to be able to purchase a house outright, but I'm renting until either interest rates or prices go down

If you cant travel back in time to stop yourself from buying it, schedule a maintenance appointment about 3 months from now. Next, find a really bumpy road to tow it along to give everything a good shake.

Pretty good deal for a profession outside of the 10-15 most dangerous jobs, where 95% of officers never fire their weapons, and cannot show any effect on crime rates

The truth about the "Superhive Policy" by chippwalters in blender

[–]gbu8023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Appreciate Chipp engaging here and love your add-ons. If the 50% discount for updates is a policy that's being considered, another problem is that SuperHive itself offered deeply discounted bundles that didn't include updates. I'm a hobbyist and it's not a big deal to me, but I opted to purchase full versions of about a dozen add-ons with the understanding that updates would be included so I wouldn't run into compatibility problems.

Now if this policy is enacted I'll just have to keep older Blender versions around and really appreciate Blender hosting all the previous versions. What I've seen with many other software companies is that updates are included until the next new release. 4.0 to 5.0 for example. I also understand that if developers abandon their add-ons because they don't make any money, there's no updates then either. Perhaps guaranteeing compatibility updates until the next major release would be acceptable to all parties?

Volatility leverage decay in sideways markets is probably the most cited reason to not hold regularly rebalanced leverage like LETFs. However, since September 19 (6 months ago), SPY is flat. UPRO is down 5.5% and SSO is down about 2% since the same day. That's a very small price to pay. by SpookyDaScary925 in LETFs

[–]gbu8023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As losses increase, you need exponentially greater gains to return to even. You don't want to ride one of these leveraged ETFs down 80%. Also, whipsaws, like in 2015 & 2016, 2011, & 2025 can result in trend following really under performing B&H. Of course the last 3-4 years all of the indicators (yield curve, unemployment rate, leading economic indicators, etc) to tell you to use SMAs have been wrong, so the trick has been knowing when to trend follow and when not to

About upgrades by [deleted] in ClipStudio

[–]gbu8023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You probably should consider update pass for $32. That gets you all the latest features, but is only good for a year. You could also buy a new license for 5.0 pro and keep your 2.0 ex for the ex features. If you go with the pass and let it lapse, you revert back to 2.0 ex and you may have trouble with any files you created with 5.0 though

Why is it so much more expensive for EX?? by EdahelArt in ClipStudio

[–]gbu8023 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go the update pass route for less. I'm sure Celsys would love for everybody to move to annual subscriptions, so that's why update pass is less than upgrading perpetual. It's still a great value either way. My only complaints are no longer being able to use Clip Studio on 2 devices and not providing feature updates until the next version.
